I ran a 14.40 at 97 mph a couple weeks ago with a stock clutch and fuel system and with my 35's. That was with a 2nd gear 4wd dump though. The clutch is starting to slip a lil though now. I think that if I had a clutch that would hold a boosted launch and wouldn't slip in the higher gears that I could get into the 13's.

I have some goodies comin for it though that will solve the clutch and lack of fuel problems. Im anxious to see how it will do then.

WOW!!! I did not realize you had blown up so many g-units...I am really starting to worry about the G-units strength??

we need some heavy duty CNC billet gears for it I guess????

X2 on those stronger gears!!!! My truck is still down waiting on the (stock) parts to fix 4th gear and the counter shaft. Looks like there is a demand for something stronger

nice times for a handshaker chris. I have never been on the strip my slow old automatic wont outrun bob hope on a golf cart. honestly I went to ORP one night a few months back and they wanted me to run the back to back racing and I didnt want to. I just wanted to run one or 2 passes so I could drive it home. I had the proxes on then and had all the weight off too but didnt end up running. I may try again sometime

Be careful banging gears with the g unit. I've heard since they shift so quick and carry boost into the next gear its easier to break then with a NV5600.

12's may not be worth it
The first Time I left I did the 3 pedal approach and built 25psi of boost very quick, But I couldn't stage the truck. I kept blowin the lights So burpin the throttle I got 8-10psi and didn't dump the clutch, more or less let it out smooth And the tires still spun like crazy. Lots of bad tq steer. I my self am also worried about the integrity of the g-units and I'm not going make a career out of drag racin.

Here is a guy that is reasonable and does top notch work. http://www.percryo.com/

Heres a thread where Topper is going through the same thing with a 5600
https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...d.php?t=209574

Maybe he will chime in after everything is done and let us know how it works for him. I used to help with a sprint car and its amazing how much stronger the cryo treatment makes things.

The place up here quoted me approx. $2500 too cryo the tans gearing. This is why I am at a crossroads.

It will cost me approx $6k too do another g-unit, or throw in an wxtra $2500 and have the auto conversion done.

Wow, thats a tough one. A G-unit with no guarantee it wont grenade again or a built auto.

What about the 5600? Did you give up on that idea? I really like manuals but if my choice was a built auto or a G-unit with your reputation with them I would go with the auto.... I think. Heck, just call Haisley and get a built 4500, its one less gear to shift

Good luck with what ever decision you make!

If you drive a high HP manual you have to have self control. Despite what everyone else says manual's just cant take the abuse of blasting through the gears at at WOT in a 600hp truck.....but that's exactly why we spent all this $$$ on it in the first place. Its pretty lame to spend $10,000 in bombs only to be afraid to get on it in fear that you may break your manual.

Go auto and forget about it. Enjoy the consistant and way lower ET's, longer pulls, and the pice of mind know that your tranny will hold up to anything you can dish out.

ALOT of guys end up in this same boat. They get a manual because that's their preferance which is cool to a certian hp level. Then they realize that their tranny is the major thing holding them back and trade for an auto.

I still fantasize about the day's when I had a built auto, I sure miss thoes day's of boosted launches, donuts, power slides, low 60ft's, and all out mayhem Thoes were the days. I bought my 03 w/ a manual because it was a sure fire way to keep it near stock and out of trouble on the streets. Its actually worked out great for me because Ive saved so much $$$ because I feel that its pointless to have anything over 500whp with a manual.

Ya, I already sort of regret trading my 05 auto for my 07 manual. Don't get me wrong, I still love my new truck, but I miss my built auto and all the fun you just mentioned above
