Rickson 19.5' s

Anyone running Rickson 19.5" wheels and tire combinations? I have a 04 3500 quad cab short box 4x4 and need a tire set that can handle the 7400lb loaded weight of my truck/camper combination. The only 17" tire I've found that is close in the toyo open country mud terrain 35/12.50r17, it will max out at 7280lbs (pair). These will fit with a levelling kit (I think), I don't want to lift my truck much due to the size and weight of my camper (05 Arctic Fox 860 slide out - made for a short box). The ricksons are nice, but expensive, and with the size and weight of them shipping is an issue as well (Maryland to Alberta Canada). If anyone has them, I'd love to hear some feedback, thanks eh.

I posted a question about this tire size last week and got no response. I am concerned about brake wear, and braking, bearings etc. I am also afraid it will throw a gooseneck trailer off too much(trailer too bed). anyone run this size tire?

19.5"

I had gone down this road about 2 months ago and have also found these folks who will custom build wheels for the 19.5"

http://www.stocktonwheel.com/

I have also located a set of 285/19.5s and that is the tire I am going to when I get the wheels I like.

NJOVERKILL had them on his last Cummins. He probably didn't see this thread or I bet he would have responded.

I run the Rickson 19.5's with the TOYO TY 303 tire rated at 6400 lbs each, they weigh in at 172 pounds per wheel. I bought them for the payload capacity when towing my backhoe and they do a great job there. The combo is 35.2" tall and you will need to do a leveling kit on the front to get the needed clearence. I run with the 6 speed tranny and see that as a must to make them work, I tow my heavy loads in 5th gear and at 65 mph it runs 2050 rpm so this works out great when towing big loads, when empty I use 6th gear and at 65 mph I am running just a touch over 1700 rpm, I like to speed a bit and get the rpm up to 1800, as far as fuel milage they didnt help me a bit but they didnt hurt me either. The ride is somewhat rougher since the load range H tires are stiff. The braking is different and it takes longer to stop the truck if you are only relying on the wheel brakes, I highly recommend an exhaust brake for the larger wheels, I do plan on the larger brake upgrade in the future though. Overall expections out of them is that I will get over 100k wear before replacment needed and will get a $60 core for the old ones, I honestly believe that once a feller gets the rims paid for that he would come out ahead on economics with tire purchases and the extra payload is just a bennie. I rotate the wheels every 10k and have almost 50k on them right now and still have a ton of tread left, Rickson has the spec sheet on them but if I remember right the tread lugs were almost an inch tall.I think I have a pic of them in my gallery.

Cheers, Kevin

Rickson 19.5's

I have 19.5's on my 99. On the 3rd set. I tow a 11,000# 5th wheel and have had no trouble with anything. Mileage not as much as they claim. But better than stock tires. Had them sence Jan. 2001 and have over 110,000 miles on the rims. Used Goodyears, Generals. & Michelins. Michelin XZE are what I have now. They have over 60,000 miles. Best I got with stock tires was 30,000. Iwould do it again. Good luck. Ron

Thanks for the info. From what I've calculated from info off the net, the tire I want is also the Yokohama TY-303 in a 265/70r19.5 on the forged eliminator wheel. The Yoko site lists the weight of the tire at 88 lbs, and the wheel is listed from rickson at 32lbs. The tire weight seems light to me as the Toyo MT is listed at 83lbs. The tire/wheel weight is not to much more than stock though I know rotating mass makes it much worse and I would also like to do a big brake upgrade if I can find one. How come your tire and wheel set up is so heavy? The steel wheel should't add that much, and how are the tires for smoothness/vibration? I suspect the best thing is to have Rickson do their match balancing for best results, is that what you did? I appreciate the feedback.

I gave up on the e-mail approach as well. When I called I talked to a lady named Heather; very personable and intelligent, had an answer to every question I had and made a few helpfull suggestions, definitely give her a call, she'll be able to help you out. 1-800-587-7633 Maryland time.

Yes let them do the balancing, they are perfect and no vibs at all. The steel rim is like 3/8" thick and very heavy. I remember when the wheels were dilivered to my house the palot with 4 complete wheels on it weighed just over 700 pounds, the semi driver thought I was buildin a monster truck or something, we tore the plastic wrap off them and unloaded one at a time...............I found out you dont want to let one hit your toe

Steel toed boots and be nimble.............got it. The other tire I'm considering is the Goodyear G-124, any opinions on these or other tires? I need something aggresive for oil lease roads, mud, and snow (white stuff 5-6 months a year).

How much do these wheel/tire combos cost? Do they make them for the Duallys? Will they only work on 4x4's or will they work on 4x2's as well?

Thanks,

Joe

I have 2400 into the combo, I truely believe I will get over 100k outa them before replacment needed, when that day comes I will get 60 per tire as a core so that offsets the price as well, You need to go to the Rickson site to get the current pricing.

I am very happy with my Dunlop 245's. Up to 5000lbs capacity if you air them up. With camper and boat the truck rides and corners extremely well. As the AAM axle on the dodge Heavy Duties is rated at 11,000lbs, you're well-equipped to handle the load.

The toyo 295/70r17 MT are load rated for 3970 lbs, will fit on your stock wheels and are available in Calgary.
