Recon Cab Clearance lights
I know some people have put on the clear or superwhite cab clearance lights. Anyone have installed pictures of the smoked version? I just ordered a smoked set I'm still debating if they're going to be to dark or not. How about at night?
How's the install? Do I just have to replace the old lenses with the new ones or is there wiring I need to change out? Thanks Shawn

OK no pics but i may be able to get some in a day if you like. they are clear though. ok so whole new lens with new bulb adapter so wiring is there. for me i went the extra step to use crimp connectors so i could easily switch back and forth between lights. i like em but the fit and finish isnt the greatest. the curve doesnt match the roofline and therefore the foam gasket they give you doesnt seal the best. mine leaked a little once. also just noticed the silver peeling off to reveal some green plastic underneath. that can be touched up later though. and as far as the seal well i just tried some mortise caulking on one.

I put these cab lights on about 1 year ago, and I can honestly say I have not had any problems at all. The quality is as good as OE or better. The only issue is you have to splice your existing wires. That was no big deal. As far as Ram Tough's issue wth the chrome peeling off, I do know that the company initially had some issues with the clear ones, but that has since been rectified. I have the smoked kit on my truck. The difference between the clear and smoked kits are the bases. The smoked kit has a black base, and the clear kit has a chrome base .I hope this helps you out. I have some pics. Email me at lifesgud2@aol.com if you want them. Good luck.

I had the same issue with bases not fitting exactly and therefore not sealing well with the supplied white foam gaskets. I junked those gaskets and put a nice thick bead of clear silicone around each one. No leaks now at all. Replacing a bulb will be a little more of a hassle with the silicone but no biggy.

I picked up my smoked lights today the aren't nearly as dark as they look on the manufacturers website. The black base does make them appear sorta dark but the lense itself looks almost clear. I'll post some pics when I install them tomorrow.

Smoked Kit
The reason they are not that dark is probably for DOT purposes. You cant have a black lens up on the roof. You might as well spray paint your stock lenses. At least they come with amber bulbs.

I didn't want completely blacked out lights. I was looking for something other than the amber lenses I had. They were starting to collect moisture. I didn't want the superwhite lenses with my black truck. I went with the smoked because they were a little darker (at least thats how they looked on the Recon website). In actuality the lenses are clear but look darker because of the black bases. They look good on the truck with the amber bulbs I put in them.
You shouldn't have any legal problems putting them on your truck the lenses are SAE and DOT. As long as you put white or amber bulbs in them.
With the Recons the old buls/wiring doesn't ft in the new lenses thus the need to rewire them.

You can find them at www.clearcablights.com, or truckaddons.com, as well as stylin concepts.com. Hope this helps.

I got mine on-line direct from Recon. I was cocerned about the white gaskets showing, so I coated the edges with black liquid electrical tape, now no white showing. Leaks are also a concern, however silicon would make bulb changing difficult. I replaced the amber bulbs with amber LED's, siliconed everything up good. No leaks and 100,000 hour life on LED's.

I just put in the plain amber bulbs.
Where do you get the amber LEDs?
I just took an black majic marker and blackened the sides of the gasket.
I then just tightened them down very well. No leaks so far.
