Recon 3rd brake/cargo light stays on!
I have a 03, replaced the 3rd brake light with a recon. The cargo light is on dim all the time. Never was an issue with the stock light. Only way can get the light to be off is to remove the fuse, but loose interior lights. Even turn the thumb wheel to off, cargo lights glow. Checked with meter, have power there, then tried mutli-meter, have 12v there with turn off. Also tried another recon light. Anybody think the thumb wheel/head light switch is the issue? thanks for any help

nobody? found diagram, has power all the time. It grounds in the instrument cluster. But it works fine with the old stock light. I know can go back to stock light, truck looks funny with smoked cab lights, box lights, tail lights. Maybe the dash doesnt like the led lights from some reason.

If its the ground wire thats switched, then maybe there is a bad "ground" in the light housing. Have you tried plugging in the light but leave it unscrewed from the truck. Hold it so nothing touching the truck and see if you still get light. If you dont then screw the housing on, if it lights up then the housing is grounding to the truck and its a bad fixture.
Just a possibility.

Found out the dodge service manual is wrong. Shows fuse 17 supplies the interior lights, cargo light, etc. I dont have fuse 17, its empty. Fuse 23 on my truck. Stock light, all is fine, tried 2 recon lights, cargo light is on very dim. Unplugged headlight switch that controls cargo light, stays on. I can make it brighter, then dimmer, just not off. Yes I held the light body so it doesnt touch the cab, same issue. The joys of aftermarket stuff, oh the $ would have it I could leave stuff alone.

It may be an LED issue. You may try hooking power to each individual lead on your Recon light and see what happens. (even though this is a slightly different situation, I was workin' on an LED lightbar on a firetruck here a while back and the company kept wantin' us to send the bar back after multiple efforts on the fix. They finally ended up sayin' that it was just a wire that needed to be switched from one connector to a different one. Easy fix, they just didn't want to look dumb)

Tried another techs 03 truck @ work, cargo lights are on. Then went to our 05 parts truck, lights are off, then tried boss's 06, lights are off. So guess its something wrong with 03's. Called recon tech line, they were no help. They said live with it! nice tech support. Oh well.

Mine does the same thing... By looking at the amount of light produced I would guess that there is about 2 volts on the circuit. I have never fooled with it because I kind of like it. The factory light doesn't show it because it can't light the filament at lower voltages. I bet it's controlled by the tcim or whatever it's called... What year did they start putting those on?
