Re-oiling oiled air filters
Are there any side effects of using a manufacturer's filter recharge kit on a different manufacturer's air filter? Do they all use the same type of oil, or are they specific from one to the other? Just curious as I need to do the filter in my Scotty 3 soon.

I'm just wondering if there will be any harm in using a K&N recharge kit on the AFe that is in my Scotty 3. Didn't know if anyone had any opinions or advice on way or the other.

The only major difference in oiled filters I've seen is the No-Toil for dirtbikes and such. They use vegitable oil I think. They make a big deal about how easy it is to clean them. This is a bigger factor for a off-road vehicle since you clean them after only a few hours. If you get the old oil out, there is no problem with switching oils. Some are more sticky than others. Like what has already been said, stick with the name brands. If you are in a sandy area, I'd run a foam pre-filter on the K&N at least till it get's a little dirty. You don't want too much oil. You also don't want too little. You also can re-oil a dirty filter. A light coat on the dirt side actually adds to the filtering ability by making the dirt act as filter material.
