Radio Frequency Filter

I'm looking to install a RF Filter on my 03 Truck.

I'm having troubles that seem to have no answers.

I know the older trucks had alternator issues and the dealer wants me to buy a new Alt. to see if that fixes the problem.

I was thinking a filter was a lot cheaper.

What filter are you guys running?

Thanks in advance.

it is usually a leaky diode in the alternator. set your volt- ohm meter to ac volts and check it at the alternator you should see less than 0.5 volts the problem with a filter on the alt the coil has to be large for the current. you can try just a capacitor get a surplus 10,000 mfd or larger capacitor rated 25 volts or larger connect it directly to the alternator using 10 gage wire, keep it short. you do not state the problems you are having. i hate auto's and do not have anything to do with them but if you are having your problem with it if you place the filter here it can be a stereo filter. some one here can help with where to put it. if it is the alt the diode is only going to get worse, the diode for a delco is about $4 i have not had to work on one of these yet

What troubles?

Filters are good if you have noise in add-on radios and such but not for a fix to the OE electronics. You need to find the source and fix it.

The problem is random speedometer movement and the truck's throttle response.

Sometimes the stops working and I have to pull over and shut it off and restart it.

No error codes. The shop reset them and no new ones.

I know on older trucks a filter was thee fix.

I stopped driving it almost 3 months ago and have been borrowing my Dad's 91 Toyota 4x4 for work.

I need my truck back guys.

Speedo is driven by the cluster controller which gets its info from the ECU. The ECU gets its info from the ABS sensor on the rear diff.

The speedo doing its jig is a good indication of something wrong either with the cluster controller or the feed from the ECU. Usually errors on the bus from the ECU are going to give you DTC's. I would suspect either the cluster controller or cluster itself.

The dead pedal is likely an APPS issue but it should be setting codes. I would invest in a Timbo APPS first and see if that makes a difference, then see what they want for a cluster and\or controller.

There is a shop in Sacramento Calif. that was recommended to me, so I called them. Has anyone heard of Cal-Rewire?
The guy sounded good on the phone so I made an appointment for 01/20/12.

It's $220.00 for a diagnostic test.
I just pray this is the right next move for me.
