Question on Wheel and Tire combo

Hello All,
Is anyone running American Racing Atlas 660 chrome 17x10" wheels with the Hummer BFG takeoffs? Or any thing similar. If so is there any problems; rubbing, deathwobble, or any other reason I shouldn't go with this setup?

Thanks in advance, I'm picking up the wheels tomorow, and tires later in the week.

Jamie

10" wide rims, 315's, only a level kit, and probably the wrong backspacing will cause you some issues. I bet you will have rubbing. 10" wide wheels are too wide for a 315 IMHO.

the backspacing on these new rims are 4.5inches. What is the backspacing on the stock rims?

6.5 or something close. a 9" wide wheel with 4.5" BS and a 315 will barely rub the plastic valence below the front bumper. 10" wide wheel will hit metal.

btw cquestad the bfg 315/70/17 calls for b/w 8.5 and 10" wide rims. what will happen if you put the bfg on an 8" wide rim. I was told the center will balloon out and wear out quicker. I run my tires as tight as they are allowed b/c I do a lot of highway driving. for mileage.

thanks Jamie

A 315 will wear fine on a 8" wide rim. 12.5 wide tires have been run on 8" wide wheels for ever. I don't know why BFG added a 1/2" to the minimum wheel width.

What problems would arise? I have never heard, seen, or experienced any in 200k of using BFG 315's. I have only had 1 flat too...ran over a #3 rebar that was staking a straw bail in place.

I found a Mickey Thompson wheel, Classic II 17x9" with 5" of backspacing. sharp looking wheel 3100lb capacity. But I think I'll stay with the American Racing Atlas 660... just the 17x8".

BTW, b/c of the 4.5" backspacing on these wheels, does that mean the truck will stand a little more wide at the tires?

thanks Jamie

Yes...

I would stay with 5" or more of backspacing amd lean towads the 9" wheel with 5" BS over the other you suggested. It will look better...much better. You don't want your truck to develop that CHEVY with skinny wheels that stick out syndrome.
