Question for guys with Jake brake??
Since my jake brake changes the shift pattern when turned on similar to tow-haul, do you guys still put tranny in t/h when towing or just turn on the jake? I don't want the two programs to "fight" against each other. I assume the jake trans program takes over anyway when it's on. Just wondering if I should just use one or the other. I've been using tow-haul when towing and turning the jake on when going downhill, doesn't seem to matter.

What it does according to Cummins is communicate with the trans so that anytime the jake is pulled, the trans sends the torque converter into lock up mode. Basically this is the same thing as tow haul mode just using a different switch....It will not hurt the truck to put it in tow haul mode and run the jake brake. The trans doesn't know the difference.

I did this research thinking I was going to get a bigger turbo and found that the factory Jake brake will not fit with most aftermarket turbos. It's not because the jake won't fit on the turbo but because of how it attaches to the turbo (most aftermarket turbo exhaust shafts are longer by 1/2" to 1" and that is too much) and the limited amount of space up again the firewall. The stock Turbo with the jake brake is a tight fit with very little room to spare so adding another 1/2" or 1" puts the jake into the fire wall of the truck I know a guy who installed a Phat Shaft turbo and made it fit. It was not pretty when he got done with his firewall (pounded the @$%! out of his firewall to make room). Your better off going with an aftermarket exhaust brake that mounts down wind of the turbo unless you willing to modify your firewall?
My reasoning for getting a bigger turbo was to cool EGT temps when towing and I didn't feel that getting rid of my jake brake was a good trade off so I went with water/meth injection. Turns out I have all the power, spool up and cooling I need with my current set up (stock turbo) and I am happy.
