Pyrometer Probe Install
Getting ready to install a pyrometer for my new Bully Dog Outlook monitor. I have two pretty simple questions.
1. What fitting is needed? 1/4" Tube x 1/8" NPT?? Where can I find one of those?
2. The instructions say to mount the probe pre-turbo. EXCEPT for the Dodge. BD recommends post turbo on the dodge. Any idea why that would be? Why would post turbo be better?

Mlucas, you're right. Every other gauge I'v looked at - and every instruction set I'v looked at - says to installl the probe pre-turbo. So why does BD recommend post turbo install? What's differant about the Dodge and the BD? There must be something about it, or BD wouldn't recommend it.
I read the instructions for the Edge monitor. They recommend it be installed pre-turbo.

I installed 2 pyro probes with my Bullydog and monitor them both with the outlook monitor. One is pre-turbo like the picture in the above post and one is post-turbo in the cast elbow. The temps stay about 200* to 300* apart (pre-turbo is hotter) depending on how hard I accelerate. I don't think it will matter where you chose to install the probe, just remember that in the post turbo location the exhaust gasses will be a little cooler.

Your thermocouple should come fitted with a 1/8npt adapter. Isn't there a like a little threaded collar on the end of it? If so just drill, tap and screw it in. Don't go too deep to start with.

The collar is there. But I don't have the adapter. I bought the unit used. I just need to find a new adapter. I'll try to find a diesel performance shop in the area and drop by.

UPDATE:
I spoke with BD tech support. Asked them the same thing. They told me it was personal preferance where the probe goes. Pre-turbo is more accurate, but post turbo is easier, with less risk to the turbo.
Also, I went to a number of places in town looking for that fitting. No luck. No part shop carries it. None of the diesel shops I went to had it either. BD is going to mail me one.
