Pyro Probe Placement and EGT Readings...
Last night I installed my gauges. I did not have a drill small enough to get into the small space to drill into the back half of the manifold in the divider pipe that comes down towards the turbo, so I went into the top of the pipe coming off the front 3 cylinders, which is the alternate location suggested in the gauge install instructions from DieselManor.com. They warned that putting it here will "result in significantly higher temperature readings" that if I had put it in the place they wanted it.
I would kind of like to know how much to compensate for where I had to put it, since with my 'Zilla Std box on 100HP setting tonight I was nearly able to bury my 1500 degree gauge on a WOT run.
Anyone who has an educated guess is welcome to chime in here...

Not sure exactly where you put it, but sounds like maybe close to where my first pyro sensor is installed.
Not sure it would be that much higher than right in front of the turbo. But with the stock turbo and the Quad Race box I could hit 1550* on WOT a long time ago.

That is EXACTLY where mine is.
I wouldn't think it would be that much higher temp either, but the instructions said it would be significantly higher there. If you think about it though, the temp does drop dramatically throughout the exhaust stream, so maybe a few inches does make a big difference.

Well that is the location a lot of pyro sensors are installed. I have a second one that is about an inch closer to the firewall now. One is for my Autometer Pyro gauge and the other is for the TST pyro sensor. They basically read the same +/-25* or so and a little variation because of fact that TST is digital display. But I trust that EGT reading as much as any place. Maybe only better spot would be between cylinders 5&6 that are suppose to be a little hotter than the others. But for the purposes of backdown settings and seeing when things are getting too hot I think it is a solid location. Mine has been there for over three years now.

I found that a little pneumatic drill fits (barley) in between the fender well without removing it.
Mine is on the side, back between 5 & 6, can't imagine it matters all that much though.
