Pros and cons of straight piping

I'm really thinking about going this route. As long as it isn't too much louder in cab and doesn't have the drone, I won't mind. I want to hear from those who have and like it or not. Let me know your thoughts.

Thanks in advance
Tony

Straight pipe is too loud and raspy sounding for most and even if you don't have any drone now, you may develop it when you straight pipe. You might consider an Aeroturbine cat back system to replace the factory muffler. It is cost effective has good sound with a deep tone and if the Aeroturbine is mounted all the way forward, should not drone.

I have a straight pipe and I like it. It gave the truck a good loud sound, but still idles fairly quiet (well kinda). There is a bit of a drone right around 2100rpm, but for under $50, it was a nice upgrade.

Straight PIPES!!

GO FOR IT!

I straighted piped my rig about a month ago. I had the shop cut the muffler off and replaced it with 4 inch pipe and a 5in round x 18 in long stainless steel exhaust tip.

The sound is awesome and not to loud. Actually, I was expecting it to be a lot louder. I have also gained about a 1.5 mpg increase which is a great thing! Now I want either an AFE pg7 or AirRaid with MIT intake, and a power pup!

YEEEE HAW.....I recommmmmmmend the straight pipe b/c it works well and the cost is better than an expensive muffler that is basically trying to do the same thing....

Later CTD POWER!

If you tow a lot at freeway speeds you won't want the straight pipe. Just to much drone. 55mph and under its barely louder than stock but at 65-70 it was unbearable for me.

I dont think there are any cons. I love mine. Greatest is that it was 60 dollars and sounds better than the 400 dollars I was going to spend. Go for it!

I've got the cat still on mine, it's barely audible 55-60 mph, pretty stinkin loud at 65-70, and quiets back down again at 75. This is the same with a load on, or empty. Was alot louder before I put the turndown on it.

I put a straight pipe on mine and 3 weeks later put the muffler back on. I saw no performance increase or hotter temps with it. It just gave me a headache on 2+ hour trips. I recently put a 5" in without a muffler, just a resonator just to see if I liked it, and crusing at any speed, it's barely, I mean BARELY louder than stock, but it does give it a nice deep sound on acceleration.

I don't know why some trucks have drone and some don't. Maybe it's a 555 vs 600 (extra inj event) thing. Mine is louder but has no drone at all! Nothing better than rowing through the gears downtown with the pass side back window down. It's fun setting off car alarms too!

from 50-60 mph it sounds like a semi in the cab. from 60-105 it is barely louder than stock. in the city it is VERY loud. i cruise at 65mph for 80 miles a day and it is not too loud for me at all. i didnt want it much louder than stock on the highway and its barely louder
