Programmer Suggestions

Mine is the 04.5 like my sig says. I have a complete straight pipe on it, Baldwin fuel filter, rest is sock. A friend has a Hypertech programmer for sale and he said I could try it and if I liked it I could get it from him for 150. I think he just paid 400 for it, he is just getting a permanent tune or something done to it. Is it worth it. I use the truck to pull my 36' gooseneck enclosed race car trailer. It rarely gets driven otherwise. If I get this I guess I shoudl do an air filter mod or get a cold air intake also correct? As usual Thanks guys!

If your primary use is towing I would get a Smary Jr, it will actually decrease your EGTs over stock, which is good.

In a perfect world I would do thta I have looked them over many times, but like I was posting about he is letting me have it dirt cheap and it seems like it would be better at 150 than nothing at all. Wouldn't you think? I have ridden in his truck and it is just like mine, but his has a **** ton of more power than mine.

Do you have gauges? Most programmers tend to run hot, and I wouldn't want to tow without gauges.

I would agree on the guage for sure when pulling with a programmer.

Do youself a favor after the guages and get a used smarty Jr. There are many for sale because ppl are going to the smarty sr. once they do the needed mods. You can find them here in classifieds or on other forums as well.

So what kind of race car ?
We have open wheeled modifieds we haul and race.

I would go with the Smarty, but at 150 the Hypertech sounds like a good deal. To be safe get gauge like the rest said.

I drag race. We have an s-10 we run in drag radial. I have about a 10 hr pull ahead and was going to install this. It will be some in the mountains. With the straight pipe I was a bit worried about the egt's, but like I said I have had a hard time finding any gauges. I usually just pull 70-75 mph. Keep the comments coming. Just one more question. I have heard great things about the Hypertech, so why is everyone so down on it? I know it made huge gains on his truck. I don't care if it can be changed on the fly or not, if that's part of the problem. Should I put the cat back on to help with the egt's?. Thanks again guys!
