Pressure drop = Dirty fuel filter

How much pressure drop at cruise from the pressure you see at idle would you guys say is equal to a dirty filter. At Idle I have very little drop but at cruise when it gets to be a steady 2 to 3 psi below the idle pressure (I still have 7 psi) I think it is time to change the filter.

What pressure would you guys think is the drop that equals a dirty filter?

I think replacing the filter on miles or time alone is too often that is why I am asking what everyone is doing based on pressure drop.

For the cost of a fuel filter I change mine every 5K with the oil filter/oil. Never had a pressure drop yet.

I had the same problem, changed the filter and nothing changed. Ended up installing a FASS fuel system and when I took the intake screen out of the tank it was stunning how much debris was stuck in the filter. My pump was only 6 months old, it made the spec pressure but not under load. I am convinced it was the crud on the screen causing the pressure drop. Not hard to drop the tank and pull the sending unit module out, if I knew I would have done that before dropping hundreads on a FASS system. Not happy with it so far.

But why, there is no reason to change if there is no pressure drop, so why spend. I am looking for those that actually use the pressure deferential as the control for change. If I can go 15K on one filter then I can take that $30 (for 2 filters) and add it to my mad money for mods or toys.

I hear ya andy I ran the stocker for the first 45000 miles before I got the fass system but I did tear up the stock pump somewhere in there and it left me walkin. Im pretty sure it was the edge that wrecked my pump runnin on extreme all the time with stock pump. And it was stinkin cold when it went out. But it did get me a FASS.
