Pre or Post turbo Pyro mount

Pre or Post turbo Pyro mount
I ordered the Di-pricol gauge set and pillar pod and wanted to know where you would put the thermo couple, i understand Pre-turbo should be a much higher temp.
would it be better so you know the actual temp of the exhaust that the turbo is getting, or would you be able to tell the same things from a post turbo mount?
thanks in advance.

This has been talked about a million times Do a search on the subject and you will find tons of info, I prefer pre-turbo myself, I want to know what's going on NOW and not latter, it would be near impossible to hurt the turbo with it pre-turbo, after I would always be trying to figure 350-400* on top of the guage, i'm not that smart If you do go pre-turbo make sure to keep shavings out of the turbo.

I just installed mine the other day and took a tip from Dieselpowerproducts.com. I taped off the end of the tailpipe(creating backpressure - use duct tape or something you know will stay on) and started the truck. I drilled the hole on the top of the manifold prior to the turbo joint portion and then tapped it while it was running. It worked great and I didn't have to take the turbo off. Lots of extra work to get all of that off. With all of that pressure coming out of that little hole there is no way you can get any of the paticles in the turbo. Also use some type of gloves and glasses while drilling and tapping - lots of fumes and hot chips flying. Some people would not be comfortable doing this but it worked great and I will do it a second time when I install the speedloader for the Banks Unit. It's very easy doi9ng it this way.

I didn't remove the turbo when I tapped.
I did however tap and then used a magnetic tipped probe to remove any shavings inside the exhaust manifold. The reality is that any remaining shavings will be pushed pass the turbo impeller before it could do some great damage like becoming lodged in the bearing.
Of course you should do what you feel comfortable with.

Good info gdh11. I will be installing a pyro next week and planning to do the pre turbo placement. My goal is to drill just above the turbo. I went with the 1/8"NPT fitting just to keep the drilling down to a minimum.
