PPE Dual fueler with high rail pressure

PPE Dual fueler with a stage 2 pump on the bottom.

For some reason I have high pressures during mild acceleration. Idle pressure is normal 5-7k, cruising pressure seems normal 18k @ 70mph.
The problem is as soon as I apply any throttle pressure my pressure jumps to 20k. This occurs each time I shift, rpm 1500-2000. Once I get load on the engine the pressure settles down to 18k.
With Flux 4.3's I can really here the rattle, I cannot confirm if the pressure trend was the same with 3.5's. With 3.5's there was very little rattle making me think no issues back then.
This happens with a stock ECM...NO Smarty.

Anyone had any issues with the PPE electonics?

TIA

Hey OT,

I'm running the same setup and am finding similar pressures. I pulled the 4.4's out and put the 2.5's back in and it still rattles (though not as bad).

Funny thing is that it seems to be getting worse.

Malcolm is running the same setup in his Mega cab...He mentioned something about excessive pressure the other day.

Have you checked your rail temperature(put your hand on it)? One thing I am going to check is the blow off. If it is leaking it might cause the pumps to fuel excessively?

Will let you know how it goes...Please do the same!

Try un hooking your rail gauge as close to the sensor as possible and listen for any noticable difference.

My rail is capped, it has been for sometime. I will check the temperature.
And yes it seems to be getting worse.

Don't bother checking the temperature....It's a sign of the blow off valve leaking.

I took my truck on a 200 mile drive today. The problem is intermitant. Some times it runs great (rp normal) other times the pressure ramps too quickly and I get mild death rattle (Flux 2.5).

Have you tried switching out the Fca's?
I might try it next week.

What's you lift pump pressure?
Do you have a LP gauge ?

I would start by taking off all the stuff. Rail pressure gage, all boxes, and go back to stock programming with the Smarty.

Rail gages can give trouble. Pressure boxes can freak out too.

anything more to say about this thread?
I cannot play right now, but would like to have this resolved before summer hits.

No Smarty high pressure/// I do have a rail gauge and it was hooked up/.

I thought the rail pressure gauges did not like dual cp3's.

When dual cp3 kits first came out for the dmax there were some issues with the electronics(know matter who's kit) swap the harness and all issues were fixed. Not saying that is your problem but might be worth a shot.

think it could be from having the RP sensor mounted in the top CP3 instead of the rail??
do all the PPE dual fuelers ramp up that hard/fast??

well I was just wondering if all trucks do this if you read RP at the pump instead of the rail it's self?

If you're cruising at 18k @ 70mph and accelerate lightly wouldn't the pressure normally jump to 20k or more? I don't see why that would be a concern?

The issue is when I'm rolling @ 10mph and go to accelerate the pressure jumps to 22k, we all know there is no need for that kind of pressure at 10mph and 1300rpm.

My rp sensor is on the rail. The ppe kits do not relocate the sensor

The injectors are loud and the pressure is high..this is the bottom line. I need to solve this.

Thanks guys

I've never had good luck with the modded FCA's on modded pumps. They always go TU with no notice and whenever they went TU it was always to high rail pressure. I would then replace the modded FCA with a stock FCA and had no more issues.

Perhaps you are getting some weird stuff going on with the dual CP3 electronics in that they were designed to work with 2 stock FCA's in terms of the manipulation (split) of the communication to the FCA(s)? Perhaps you could put a stock FCA on the modded pump to see what happens?
