Power steps or nerf bars?

My wife has been jumping into my truck for the last several years and is getting tired of it plus we just found out she is pregnet with our first child. She has made it clear before she gets to big she wants steps or nerf bars on. I realy want to put power steps on it but am having a hard time finding them. The only place I have found them is around $1400. I realize that is probobly close to the average price but I was hoping that someone on here had a set that was a little cheaper i could look at. My other option is a nerf Bar. I absolutly will not even consider a running board, Im not 70. My wife wants either a Nerf bar or a power step soon. I have seen a few steps that look like a nerf bar but are wider with a big flat step that mite not be so bad but are still awfull close to a running board. I need some ideas. They have to look good so Lets see what all everyone has. Post them or links to them if ya can. I need Ideas. Thanks.

I forgot to ask. Has anyone with power steps had any problems with them freezing up in winter conditions? I would think that may be a problem if they get covered in slush or such in the winter. I dont wana spen that kind of money just to have them self destruct because of Ice.

Gratz on the kid! My wife is preggo with twins atm. Our first as well. I like the Mopar nerf bars, they are wide and strong as hell, when you step on them anyway. A lot stronger than mine and a lot better looking too. Good luck!

Definitely go with Power steps. You can even get the 2" extension (an extra $100) but makes ingress and egress SUPER easy. They are almost tripple the width of nerf bars and super solid. You wont regret them!

I paid $1300 with tax and shipping (including the 2" extension) from an Amp Research dealer.

If you spend anytime off road, I say nerfs. They not only offer a step, but they give some protection to your rocker.

I'm in the same boat as you!

I've been going back and forth from power steps to nerf bars and would really prefer the steps myself but do like the look of the bars. And like you, we are expecting also (Congrats) and my wife is letting me know that it wont be so easy to hop up in when she's further along, so the step is taking alittle higher priority now, not that i'm complaining. It's always nice to have yor wife want you to buy stuff for your truck. I am leaning towards the steps but like you would like to see if there is such a thing as a good deal on them somewhere. I was also wondering if anyone on here that has the power steps did the install themselves? Sorry for the high jack!
Thanks,
Tye

Definetly go with the power steps. My truck came with some nice chrome side steps but it looks way too grandpa style. I took them off when I lifted the truck. Yeah it was easier getting into but hey im young and think chrome steps take away from a lifted truck. I will be getting power steps as soon as I have the $$$.

Chrome nerf's for sale. PM me

I am just throwing out another option for you. I like the Ranch Hand side steps. They are inexpensive and look good, imo. Stong as an ox. You can jump up and down on them and THEY WILL NOT MOVE. I replaced some Tech Tube wheel to wheel stainless bars with these.

There are some pics in my gallery. https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...0&ppuser=31499

I've got some N-fab's on mine. I like 'em except for the dent in the back of both of 'em from DHL. That's another story. Just a word of advice - hurry on those steps. If she's very far along, make sure you get them asap. If you don't, trust me you'll hear about it.

Deffinetly agree here. I plan on going with black wheel to wheel nerfs, I only wish I would have done it a couple years ago. Those BFG A/T's chuck the gravel, the dually fenders are wickedly pitted towards the bottom.

If you spend most of the time on pavement, go with the power steps, I think they would serve you and yours much better.

Don't expect those nerf bars to protect your rocker from anything but pebbles throw up by the tires. If you come into contact with a large rock they'll just fold up right into the rocker. Ask me how I know...

I'll be getting AMP Powersteps for mine. I just can't stand having steps hanging down all the time.

I wonder how the amp power steps would handle being burried in snow and then opening the door when there packed snow under them????

Everyone I have talked to says the Kodiak steps are junk. The motors have a tendency to burn up, always while the step is hanging down. I can't tell you how many times I've seen a truck cruising around with their Kodiak step hanging down. The shop I frequent quit selling them because of this. The only powered step they sell now are the AMPs.
