I filled it on Saturday and drove to work monday/tuesday with trailer in tow empty, had small load of scrap on the way back. Wednesday morning I loaded 3000lbs on the trailer and hauled it off before work and then the 70 mile trip from the scrap yard to work. Picked up an 84' volkswagon bus wednesday night and had to get fuel on the way home. That tank of fuel got me 19.8 miles per gallon...hand calculated, bombing around the country where I live and going to work without trailer seemed to be a bit more. Is'nt it great to have such a big truck and have fuel mileage like what we are getting!!! Lets see them people in their escalades and yukon denalis hit numbers like this!! Diesel should be cheaper just because of how much more efficient they are.

Towing, anything >3kip; 12.75MPG
Empty City/freeway; ~14MPG
Empty Freeway; last checked 15.3MPG
These numbers are getting better all the time; I only have 2300 miles on it!

Milage
I started tracking my milage at 11728 miles and am now at 23657 over this time frame I have averaged 16.5mpg. That is combined city/highway, and upstate NY winter. Now that the weather has improved I am getting about 17. I am jellous of you guys getting 20. Of all you guys getting around 20 how many have 4.10 gears?

Southern Roads
I don't know whats in the fuel or what the difference is with the roads down south compared to New England but there must be something. At best doing approx. 85% city if i'm really easy on it I'll get about 12mpg, though its not uncommon to get under 10mpg city. Highway depends on too many factors with the way traffic is around here, the best ever was just shy of 20mpg going really easy on an 800 mile trip. The average for highway trips though is about 15-16mpg. I don't keep track of mileage anymore becuase its just depressing, I just calculate it when I fill up to make sure nothing is too far out of wack and thats it. Fuel ecomomy is the only thing that makes me want my 01 back.

On an 850 mile round trip from rochester ny to nyc over easter, ave 18.3 (measured/overhead) w/in .2. that was with the quad cab full of passengers, and a little in the back. Cruise set at 65, never over 70, ave mph for trip 51.5 mph. Extremely pleased. But now Ive installed the torque tube from genos, s. ring MIA, and soon swiss cheese... bye bye good mileage . just over 12000 on the clock

I WAS getting about 18.2 until today. The muffler fell off while downtown this morning doing a P.M. job, when I got back to the truck, the guy that had my keys just grinned, and I did the same when I got in it. So the MPG dropped to 16.5 this morning, but on the way up hwy 78 to do another P.M. this afternoon, it came back up to 17.5. Guess I'll have to live with 16 to 17 mpg, or less listening to it.
Jake brake install is scheduled to start Sunday morning.

I'm seeing a real pattern on this forum as well as others. The people who get 20 or better don't seem to constantly track their mileage, just the good tanks. The few that do keep constant track of mileage are all in the upper teens or lower. Thats what I can agree with after 7 dodge diesels. 95-4:10s 18mpg,hwy 65mph. 3-97 2-3:54s 1-4:10 18mpg,hwy 65mph. 1-98 12v 3:54s 18mpg,hwy 65mph. 1-01 3:54s 18mpg,hwy 65mph. 1-04 3:73s 18mpg,hwy 65mph. All of my trucks have been 3500 4x4s and manuals. I've seen the rare 21+mpg on down hill runs out of Denver with a 30ft gooseneck. I would love to take a ride with anyone who thinks they consistantly get 20+mpg. I'll take along the gps and the scan gauge on a interstate with mile markers and make sure your getting 20+. Of course you might be disappointed.

I calculated the mileage on a number of tanks in my 2wd '98 12v quadcab dually. I had to hand calculate it to get any figure, since it does not have an overhead. I can consistently get 23.5 at 55 mph on the highway, unloaded. It falls to a little over 17 at 65. I've backed this up several times, with the same results. I don't know what it'll do with the 3.54's that are going in. You can choose to believe it or to not believe it, that's your choice.

First ever tank of fuel in the baby she did 16.2 mixed driving, unloaded.
Second tank was 18.1 mpg unloaded, mixed driving.
I do not baby it, that power is addicting.

18mpg pretty close to what I get with my 04.5 usually. I have the tone ring mod and 315's on H2 Rims. I get around 16mpg when I'm having a bad week.
Bad week = grinding teeth, a heavy foot, and lots of rubber left on the pavement....
Towing a 5000# boat = 13-16 mpg city/highway.
