Plexiglass
I am going to build a cold air intake system & want to make the air filter box out of plexiglass. Does anybody know if 1/4 inch plexiglass will hold up under the hood with the high engine temps? I don't know what temps it's good for or what kind of temps are under the hood. I am going to build the torque tube & use the AEM dry flow filter.

haha plexiglass? that actually sounds kinda cool! I used to play with leftover scraps of plexiglass all the time, it should hold up to the heat, but I would be careful with it, its amazing how good that stuff burns. Smells pretty nasty also!

Plexiglass can be a trick to work with. Do you want to use plex because it's clear?
If you can use something that's not clear there are a lot of plastics that are better for the heat and vibration under the hood. ABS is good or KYDEX is better for toughness. ABS is easy to glue and form.
Let me know if you need more info.

If you really want to know about it, download the pdf catalog from Port Plastics it will tell ya more than you ever wanted to know

Why bother? Buy a Ram Air III from Scotty. He has been through all that stuff and has a great system. No sense re-inventing the wheel.

Box
Just looking for something cheaper to make a box out of. Thanks for the info. I have been looking at other materials & color doesn't matter, but the price does.

Plexiglass will crack and discolor from the heat & vibrations. your best bet is to go with Lexan looks just like plexi but 10 times stronger, it will not crack or get brittle from the heat. Just from my 10 years of doing auto glass.
