Smile Performance questions from Afghanistan (2004 5.9)

I am currently deployed to Afghanistan with the 82nd Airborne Division, but I will be returning stateside in a few months (after being deployed for 15 months). I purchased a 2004 Dodge 2500 while I was over here, and now that I am returning I am trying to find some performance parts to boost the HP and overall performance. I have looked into Banks and I like what they have such as the Hoss Kit, but I don’t know if it is the best out there. I like that Banks boasts of lower smoke output (less wasted fuel), but as I said I don’t know if it is the best for the money. Being in the military I am trying to be tight with my money, but I would rather get something good now instead of wanting to upgrade later. If anyone could recommend what parts (exhaust, air-intake, programmer(s), ect) that would be the best I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks again and if you need anymore info just let me know and I will get back to you.

get wills whistler intake (homemade), smarty senior programmer, aurora 3000 turbo, Goerend tranny thingamijig and hold on tight. DONT GET EDGE JUICE ATTITUDE. We should all give your our EDGE JUICE ATTITUDES so that you can hook them up on ALKEIDA vehicles and theyll screw up and give up.

Welcome to DTR!

Use the search feature in the top right corner. Quickly you'll find that Banks is not what you want.

First, gauges. Then performance. Smarty programmer can't be beat!

ok you want to boost your hp, what are you going to be doing with the truck and how far do you want to take the hp? banks is good but seem to be really pricy for what they are. second if you want to be able to do more later i wouldnt go with banks. smartys are the hot ticket on these trucks hands down. it all depends on what you want/ like. if you dont plan on going crazy with the hp the stock exhaust with performance muffler is good. havent looked into the intakes as much as i should but i know AFE w/ progard7 is good and like i said the smarty seems to be the programer for these trucks. you will also need gages they seem to be more accuret when there not part of a chip

Have a safe trip home!!! The guys on here know their stuff. Just remember to tune lightly untill you can beef up the tranny, that'll keep er reliable and last.

Just cause you had bad experiences with the Edge Juice w/ Attitude doesn't mean it sucks. You're the only person I've seen on here that has had any real trouble..

Here is the link on the Whistler Intake. Click Me!

its homemade nathaniel but member 51 ****** has a link to the directions in his signature.

If you don't feel like building and just want to buy one and slap it on, go with a afe stage two, its what alot of the high horsepower single turbo guys are running. Member and DTR advertiser XLR8R has a pretty nifty intake also!

Exhaust: I believe city diesel (?) has an inexpensive 5 inch kit, but throwing on an after market muffler works well too!

On the programmer.... I know people that have been happy with smarty, bullydog, and ppe but I run a smarty and love it! I believe they have low smoke tunes if that's your cup of tea! But I wouldn't run it all the way up without trans reinforcement.

And banks makes nice stuff but I personally ( and I think just about everyone else ) thinks its priced way too high!

As another military member, I would probably go with the smarty programmer, guages, and afe intake to get started. I am thinking about getting rid of my quad box and going to the smarty after reading all the great things about it on here. The reason I haven't is I have not had any problems out of the quad stuff and am happy with the power and in cab adjustability. Good luck, do your research on here first and decide what your wanting to get out of the mods you choose, have a safe trip home and look forwarded to hearing from you state side once the Mods start.

Gauges first before you do anything is a must. Then do intake and ehaust. I ran a Bully Dog Torque Dog and now run the Quad Race Box. Love the race box. Hear adrenaline is suppose to be better

I hate that you say this and as one has said above just cause you don't like what you still have in your signature does not mean it is bad. I love my edge and have had alot other options on my truck and have always went back to the Edge for the usefulness features and adjustablility.

Back on subject I would suggest the Edge because it is so adjustable and you can get the 180 hp unlock code for it which netted me over 200 at the wheels with only exhaust and air upgrade as well as having the guages that you need to see. I like the Smarty to but it is not as adjustable since you have to stop and reload each program. There are alot of options out there that are nice and Banks stuff is I think overpriced to. Good luck there I will be joining you there in 3 months and be at Ft. Bragg before that for train up.
