Performance box DonM is working on?

I am getting ready to make the jump for a performance box. I really want it all - More Power & Better MPG!

I remember something about a performance box DonM was working on that was looking good for power and MPG. Sounds like just the ticket!

Does anyone have any info on it or when it may be ready?

Thanks in advance
Allen

I heard the same thing, but it was in prototype/testing phase, not sure on when if ever it will come out, waiting patiently.

I have many of them in beta still, but the testing is complete. We have been testing since the spring. About April we got the first good data string started with the alpha version.

The results are very good on the first prototypes. Mileage is showing on the overhead as 4 plus MPG, but the real hand calced mileage is closer to 2. One tester got 2 MPG better than his Edge EZ. Some are getting 2.5.

This first box is not a high performance style. Yes, its adds power, but the main goal was mileage and more towing grunt. Not 1/4 mile performance. We do not fool boost. We dont use a boost fooler orifice in the turbo.
It does climb slightly faster, but the max boost is not much higher. Perhaps a few pounds on the 03-04 trucks. About a half pound in the 04.5. EGT empty is no more than 100 degrees hotter with the 04.5. 150 or so with the 03-04. This is at full throttle.

We begin a gradual defuel in the higher RPM bands to limit EGT and boost.

The prototype ran so well...we changed nothing. The software was updated some and the protocols for programing them was enhanced. That is mostly for my side and does not effect the end user or the performance.

The box is tough. Made to withstand abuse. It does not use cheap Chinese, etc parts or labor. The plugs are super high quality. It was designed to be bulletproof, install, and forget. I did not want the boxes coming back for warranty or replacement. I wanted a good name and the dealer selling them to know they would leave the shop and not come back or have to answer calls to get them warranteed out.

I have hundreds of dyno runs and tens of thousands of miles from several testers. On everything from a single charger stocker truck to a real hot racer. 9 months testing so far. Never a single code or a driveablilty issue. Matter of fact the fueling maps are so smooth they actually drive better than stock trucks do. Smooth as silk. NO injector rattles, etc.

Look for some write ups from a few folks here soon on this box. It will add 40/50 HP on the 03-04 trucks and about 20 on the 04.5. 6 speed trucks are getting up to 55 HP in the middle rpm ranges on the 03-04 trucks.

If this is not what you want or need more power...We are currently building and already testing a much more powerful box. Many features not used or seen by anyone yet. It is more complex. It has a multiple connections. Manifiold pressure, rail pressure and injectors to name a few. The processing power is very high. It is being developed on the same basis as fire and forget. "No warranty troubles" are the goal. No reprogramming to fix driveability issues, etc.

It will be more like a 30-80 HP box with stock injectors. Several maps will be optimized on the dyno to the TST and other popular boxes for stacking. That is actually almost finished now. 8 fueling maps. With a specific map for the TST, and other duration extension boxes. Like the Edge Juice for instance. 4 maps perhaps for the stock trucks at differnt power levels. Some maps will be optimized to our EDM injector line coming soon.

I hate the delays as much as anyone. We are thrashing away to make them right the first time and not have all these returns that many vendors and their delears are experiencing.

Hope this helps. The release on the first box is just around the corner. The second box is a few months behind it.

Here is a link to an old dyno graph from a 03 truck for the towing/mileage box. You can see the defuel we add to control EGT. But the power in the mid range is very solid and is there from the start of acceleration. About 140 ft lbs of TQ too!!!

DonM

Sounds like what I am looking for. MPG is more important than all out power (for me anyway). This is my driver and tow rig.

It's not that I am not into power, I have a 8-71 blown bigblock 32 chevy street/strip project for the go fast part

Look forward to more info!

Thanks

Just looked at the dyno graph and would really like to see one that showed RPM not speed. That way I can equate it to my set-up and the RPM range I use.

If you have one like that, I would really like to see it.

Thanks Again

Performance Box DonM is working on

Don

Will the high performance box also give better MPG or is it more for power only. I am looking for gas mileage and towing power only.

blown32,

I have a ton of dyno graphs and data. I will compile it all and post later.

Yep if I had to GUESS I would say he is increasing the pressure earlier, at lower throttle positions compared to the competition. But backing down on the additional pressure as throttle is increased to help with the EGTs, but decreasing max HP. I guess we'll find out.

Allen,

I added a few more graphs to the same page. It might take a few seconds to download the whole thing. I put up the same graph as before with RPM and a 6th gear run to show the smoothness of the power curve.

Hope this helps,

Yes, the box was made to increase mileage more than power. It is not a race and power oriented box. Towing, mileage, safe rail dynamics and long injector life were the goals. Not raw power.

Thanks for the graphs, just what I was looking for. I will wait to make my choice until after your box is out! Can't wait to make a pick and start playing!

Fuel Box

So the question of the day. When can we buy one and how much do you think it will be? What modifications do you have to do to install one of the boxes? Does it have a dial like the others or just set it and forget it!!

Thanks,
Don
