Over cautious about EGTs?

If the XZT is a towing module why is it running so hot on GoodOLKyle's truck? What is the XZT's power rating?
Kyle I hammer it and don't let off but I have my egt limit set at 1350.

The XZT is a towing module and is rated at 60 hp and 160 ft lbs i believe. Don't get me wrong, i love the box and the power it provides, i just wish i ran cooler. Having all that power on tap and not being able to use it is almost pointless to me.....

I've worryed about this too. I have a XZT and PTGarcia set it up to defuel at 1350. I can hit that climbing local hills easy, and do pulling a 14,000lb Toyhauler. My next mod is going to be a AirIntake, and I think I'm going to try the Quadzilla one out. I'm hopeing the open airintake will help me get rid of some EGT temp.
The best I can do is around 40-45mph and EGT's running around 1250-1300* on a 6 % grade. I don't push it any harder.

I'd like to bump up my motor, but I can't see doing it electronically. From the reading I've done it seems that intake manifold modifications (not just air filter mods), cam shaft replacement, and a turbo change along with larger injectors give more power, and keep EGTs to a reasonable level. I also know it's a lot more expensive to do these mods.

If you do just a fuel box, yes the EGTs are going to be up there and you will need to back pedal going up grade with a load. All you did was added more fuel. Mod the intake, add the biggest intercooler, mod the exhaust, etc. (more Cool air) and you can use the extra fuel the fuel boxes provide. Or do all the intake mods, intercooler, exhaust mods only without adding a box and the EGTs will never get to a point where motor will defuel. On a up hill grade, without the defueling (no box, just mods) you get there sooner and the motor will be more efficient getting there.

stock trucks, idiot drivers. so i believe from the factory, BONE STOCK, you can easily overwork and destroy these rigs.
wifes '06 will get up to 1350 stone stock, empty, on a hard uphill pull
The 03-04 trucks are not designed to run as hot as the 04.5-07 trucks

There seems to be ample empirical data to confirm this. My stock '03 rig @ about 17klbs will only put out 23# of boost and 800 deg EGTs with the pedal to the floor in the mountains with 6% -7% grades. It's mostly idiot proof. Are the mfgs just pushing the envelope with the later models?

This may be a stupid question but is it possible to insert the pyro probe to far and actually bottom it out on the other side of the manifold to where the tip of the probe is touching metal and giving a false temp reading. (Did that make any sense at all?)

DeanQ, You're either towing in 4 LO, Replaced your stock injectors with those in your wifes tdi, or accidently put your pyro in the intercooler pipe...unless of course you pyro is on the rear bumper...To the floor towing you can not be less than 1200 stock in any gear above 50mph....this is just simple math.....220 to 260hp stock at the rear wheels represents the engine having a force output of 250 to 305hp and a total output of 508hp...the 203 hp is heat produced by the engine and is represented as a minimum of 150,000 watts of heat/energy or 150 1000watt heaters going off in your engine...with a diesel 40% of total hp produced is just to generate heat (60% is the energy to move the crank shaft. This heat is absorbed by the truck, the air around the engine or the heat absorbed into the coolant, the oil, or out the tail pipe. Your choice. ks

I agree, 800* EGT with a very loaded truck on a grade does not sound right at all. Unless you are barely idling up that hill. Where is you pyro installed? What kind is it? Have you tried a different gauge. I would definitely question something if that is pre-turbo.
