Opinions of Bullydog from a Smarty User
Well i consider myself a programmer connoisseur because i've had tons of chips & programmers throughout the period i've had my truck. I started off with a Smarty jr. went to a bullydog back to a smarty jr to a smarty and now back to the bullydog. I feel i no longer need to stack due to the low end power feature of the bullydog and the power is sick i couldnt stop spinning tires.
Rail pressure wasnt to high either from what i expected from other peoples views given it wasn't far off from the numbers of me stacking. I feel both the Smarty ans BD are crazy powerful but the Bullydog has come to scare me where the Smarty just gave me an adrenaline rush. I love the Smarty from the ease of operation and the very easy capability of customer serivce. Not to mention the ability to adjust performance features which the BD cannot.
Since i did my transmission work i had a hunting issue and flare probably due to the increase line pressure down low, well, the BD's low end feature fixed that by adding more power down low to actually match the line pressure for a change.
I know some people are gonna bash this and some are gonna agree but both have their benefits and I love the Smarty, but from now on i found my programmer...I'm even considering getting rid of the Quad, my HP goals are at a max about 550hp since i'm still on the stock tc(waiting for it to die). I dont race or anything or tow plus i'm 2 wheel drive so my trans has held up very nicely.

Thanks everyone. I was actually really excited to see that this old programming can help the shift pattern that messes with a lot of these trucks. I dont think you can go wrong anyway both make good power and just because its old doesnt mean its outdated. This has continued to be proven all in all a programmer is a programmer they do basically the same things but in different variations,
This is the triple dog unit loaded with crazy larry since i have an 06 and the power feels very strong throughout the powerband even on performance which felt stronger than my Smarty Jr on 3 but the Smarty jr didnt feel like i was gunna die if i wasnt sensitive to the throttle.
I'm just considering if i even still need the quadzilla now. The power is very strong in the low end and like i stated earlier dont intend to go very far power wise. What do you guys think, is there still a need for the X2 to get to 500hp?

I would've prob. went w/BULLY myself. The main reason i went or TWO reasons i went w/SMARTY JR is i'm limited on power (help control myself) and the fact that it won't raise a flag if programmed back to stock when i take her in the *********** for something (tranny work)
Good post, very informative

I agree to each there own. I agree whats good for one aint for another. I love when some one come's out and says hey this is what I like and see and feel and being true about it not just blow'n smoke. As far for me with gear/line preassure it was just as weird as stock for me. But with play'n w/ my Jr it's alot better but not perfect. Perfection that will never happen.

I loved the adjustability of the Smarty. The timing was the best part since i could stack my quad X2 with duration for my Smary Jr. just for some more extra power than the smarty itself could give.
However i tried the X2 today with the low end power off and the truck felt pretty good, and than tried full out quad x2 with crazy larry loaded and the truck was very quick.
On a side note i noticed that Bullydog is less rail pressure than i saw with the Smarty which i kinda find surprisng and this was without pressure added from quad, however this is using the BD's tow tune to drive around town compared to the 90hp Sw3 with tq 2 tm1
I easily gained 10mph on a quarter mile stretch with the two loaded compared to stock and about 5 mphs over smarty jr. very close to smarty sr. but i cant give an approximate figure since its not a quarter mile track but a mile road of my friends property that has a dip at a little more/less than a quarter mile. Also watching the speedometer is hard when trying to concetrate on the important things.
I think whichever way people choose to go power will be power no matter the name on the box. Duration is duration, timing is timing and pressure is pressure. No way around it and no ones is much more special than the other except for the combination that is made by time and spent tuning a certain truck or trucks and some are more similar to the tested vehicles than others. You'll always get what you pay for as long as you stick to a well known electronics company.
All in all i'm happy with the choices i've made and the steps ive taken to be where im at with my choice in mods the Smarty jr. was great for when i needed it. The Smarty Sr. was just a lil too much $ for me which got me a very nice shotgun. But the bullydog has always had features that appealed 9(adjust on the fly/low end power)to me more and i dont need every last drop of horsepower because my truck would just spin tires way more. i just look for best daily driving manners and have to tune what i have for the best overall safe gains.
