one more question about smarty/quad boost fooler
ok with all the talk about the computer having a freeze frame of the engine parameters at the time of a CEL, what will it show for boost if i have the boost fooler in service or dont whenever the turbos putting out 40 psi or more? i like the boost fooler but i think my turbos about had it. its barking more and more and im being easy on it. im gonna knock the smarty back to 5 or so and cant decide if i want the bf on there or not.
is the turbo bark something that will get worse till a failure or am i just noticing it more? i almost have to feather my throttle when i let off it and pray people dont pull out in front of me or else im gonna hear all about it!
im just trying to keep my some of my warranty in tact...if my turbo does die then im not going to go to DC for one btw...
its currently running about 46-48 psi on moderate acceleration.

its called a boost fooler.
the computer is tricked into thinking boost is actually lower than it actually is...meaning the computer is not showing that 46-48psi...but what it is showing, I don't know. I think i'm about to buy a scan tool to monitor rail pressure and few other parameters...I'll let ya know if I buy one.

i understand about the boost foolers purpose, i thought the smarty had some kinda boost fooler feature built in and if i take off the bf and a CEL comes on what will the computer be showing? will it show the actual pressure or some number that the smarty is telling it?

when you plug the smarty into the truck the first thing displayed is the program number, compare that number with the ones on madelectronics.com under the downloads page and determine if the program loaded into your smarty provides boost fooling.

I'd use the boost fooler. Since the Smarty re-programs the ECM, it probably will show higher psi within a freeze frame...but i'm not sure about that.
Once again, I'm looking into buying a scan tool capable of reading rail pressure and such. We can put it on your truck to see what it reads with a boost fooler on there. If I get this scan tool, i'll let ya know.

For turbos, I love mine (SPS 62/14 aka SPS6280). Its a good multipurpose turbo. Towing or racing, it does well. I think you will enjoy anything like a 62/12 or a 62/14....64/14 may be a little too much lag. Personally I am very happy with Industrial Injection and the SPS series turbos. I can send mine in to be rebuilt into a 66 if I decide to later. Granted the SPS turbos are more expensive, but worth it IMO.

Bob, has Marco checked to see how high the boost will get with the new "disabled wastegate software" on a '04.5 - '05.5 CR?
Does the file trick the ECM into seeing lower boost, or just disable the wastegate - as in on/off?
Thanks...
