Remember mine is an '06 and soots up. I like to get the soot out. I'm only doing UOA's every other change now, just to see if everything is alright.

You think that Cummins has their logo on their because they think this is the best oil for their engines, or... it meets (not necessarily exceeds) the requirements that Cummins wants and there's a bit of $$ exchanging hands?
The oil filler cap on my son's bmw says castrol oil recommended.... sad thing though is the castrol over here ain't what's offered in the fatherland.....

Am I saying that you shouldn't use that oil or that it is a lousy product? No, not at all.... just don't mistake an endorsement as meaning it is the best product to use - it's just best for their respective bank accounts.
If Cummins had taken it a step further (like many of the motorcycle companies) and put their own label onto the jug (or any brand of oil for that matter)... they would still recommend that your Cummins runs best with Cummins liquid gold......

This debate on the best diesel oil has been going on here for years along with many of the other diesel websites and there will always be differences of opinion.
However, the best way to determine what is the "best" is through independent testing by qualified technicians or engineers. And the Turbo Diesel Register (TDR) recently did just that. The Members here should know that the oil mmurray posted the picture of (Valvoline Premium Blue) and Thundercraft commented on, finished near the TOP in EVERY category tested!
Also, I have been through the Cummins Mid-Range Engine Plant twice in the last five years and the oil Cummins is pumping into their engines is the Valvoline "Cummins" Premium Blue Diesel Oil. FWIW,.....Cummins sets a "standard" of what they want from their oil and the manafacturers must meet those standards. It is the same way with what they do with filters and turbos which is why they own their subsidiary companies, Holset and Fleetguard!
I will try to find my TDR magazine and post some of the findings on the oil TDR had tested and put some of the data up here. But, FWIW,.....yes, Valvoline Premium Blue is very good oil for our Dodge CTD Pickups!

Yes, I always wanted to try the Premium Blue, but when I am running low on oil and I go shopping I always end up finding Delvac for $5 a gallon or some other blow out price on oil and end up buying 30 gallons of something besides Valvoline Blue.
I use the same oils in my ATV's (5 of them) and my Harley. I think any air cooled engine could use diesel, but I ask first.

I hear what you are saying Lost Lake. One thing I would add to your post is Valvoline Premium Blue has gone up alot over the last year or so. Out here in eastern N.C. it costs $16.99 a gallon at both "Advance Auto" and "Auto Zone." Heck it used to be $11.99 a gallon! However, I did see it up in Illinois at "Rural King" for $11.99 about a month ago.
