Amsoil bumper to bumper for everything but brake fluid and coolant.

AME 15w-40 in the motor
ATF in the PS and Xcase
SVG 75w-90 in both diffs
MTG in the NV5600

For the price of syn, I think a guy could change every 5,000 miles and get much better results using clean dino oil changing twice as often. Good dino oil can be had for $9 a gallon. Drain and change the oil every 5,000 miles and the filter every 10,000 and you'd spend less money and probably be better off.

I'm not arguing, I think synthetic oils are better, but I will argue whether changing with dino oil at half the intervals is better than running syn twice as long.
This sums it up. On my 04 without the in-cylinder egr I go 25,000 miles between oil changes using Amsoil AME 15w-40 and a Donaldson ELF7349 filter and do an analysis at the oil change only. I'm on my fifth oil change using this method.

I guess you're getting your oil analyzed? If so, have you tried other oils at similar intervals?

CENPECOin the motor,
Amsoil everywhere else! Being that I use my truck for a little pulling and it is much more fueled then a daily driver, I change my oil very often, sometimes less than 800 miles, depending how many pulls, abuse etc. That way I am getting the contaminants out.

I run amsoil with a bypass filter and went 80,000 miles last oil change. And I do have it analyzed, and it always comes back good for continued use.

How often are you analyzing it though? Weigh in the analyzing costs bypass set up and bypass filter costs it could take quite a few years to recoup the difference in price.

A 03-04 should easily go 25,000 miles on one filter and no bypass using Amsoil AME 15w-40 and a Amsoil EaO80 or Donaldson ELF7349 filter. My soot the last five oil changes has always been less than .1% without running a bypass.

Its not even close in cost

I started having it anlizied every 5K then went to 10. The normal filter on the bypass lasts 50K the secondary filter lasts 100K. So when you do the math its not only cheaper but I dont spend any time fooling with it, but can go fishing and hunting and all the things I enjoy without having to worry about the truck. By the way when I started having it anilized it was $12 plus postage not its more but not that much. Now its $32 but thats still way cheaper than an oil change even using junk oil.

Yes, it's called licensing (read $$ )
You think that Cummins has their logo on their because they think this is the best oil for their engines, or... it meets (not necessarily exceeds) the requirements that Cummins wants and there's a bit of $$ exchanging hands?

The oil filler cap on my son's bmw says castrol oil recommended.... sad thing though is the castrol over here ain't what's offered in the fatherland.....

Licensing is Huge money.

Am I saying that you shouldn't use that oil or that it is a lousy product? No, not at all.... just don't mistake an endorsement as meaning it is the best product to use - it's just best for their respective bank accounts.

If Cummins had taken it a step further (like many of the motorcycle companies) and put their own label onto the jug (or any brand of oil for that matter)... they would still recommend that your Cummins runs best with Cummins liquid gold......

A few years ago Ford put that the recommend BP gasoline right on the gas cap of every gasser vehicle. I actually had people run out of gas looking for a BP station

FWIW, I run Synthetic in my diffs, and a mixture of Pennzoil Synchromesh and Lucas Synthetic Additive in the tranny. Just regular ATf +4 in the transfer but will change to Synthetic soon.

I just switched over to Rotella Synthetic in the engine, but since I have researched this in cylinder egr, I will prob go back to dino and 7,000 mile changes.
