OEM style drop in filters

I have done lots of searching on here and other sites. I am looking for your suggestions for a OEM style drop in air filter for the stock box. I want a better flowing filter, but I also want protection. I was looking at the AFE drop in, but its like $85 compared to $19 for the stocker. I was also looking at the Amsoil, its $45 but some have said it doesnt last too long. I want a dry filter, nothing I have to oil....what are your suggestions, comments, experiences. Thanks.

I liked my Amsoil drop in when I had it. Don't know about lasting long, you just clean it out with low air pressure. I've read on here that some like the NAPA GOLD. My UOA liked it {Amsoil Ea} too had very low silicone levels, can't remember the number, but it was excellent. It also flowed way more than stock, the new stock air filter would pull down F. Minder with the Quad Race, after I installed the Ea nano, it wouldn't pull down FMinder till dirty. I have an oiled filter on my 87 6.9 and just did not want to fool with another one to clean and oil. Just my experience.

I don't know CFM but it flows significantly better. The Amsoil Eaa 189 gave low silicone levels. I never tried the Napa Gold. No experience with AFE, but I would not hesitate to try it, they make really good products. Autoanything has them for your truck for 74 bux and free shipping. Looks beefier than Amsoil.

With Smarty on sw#3,my filterminder will not budge with the stock filter. What cured it was the PSM downtube. The Home Depot special works just as well. I do run a AFE PG7 currently.

Thanks for the help guys...Im going to order the Amsoil EAA189.

I also did the "home depot" version of the PSM downtube. That is the reason I'm looking to get a better filter... Thanks again.

Napa Gold/Wix 2846. Rated at 675CFM and only costs $13.19 from fleetfilter.com. You could order a stack of 2846s for $74.

You know, I got busy this weekend and have yet to order the Amsoil filter. Just took the kids horseback riding and one of the guys said something about using the Napa Gold filter. He said it was a good filter and flowed well.

I have a Napa auto parts store near me...Im gonna get one tomorrow and see for myself. Anybody have any comments on the Napa Gold filter???

I don't know if they've corrected this issue on my Amsoil nano but it is about 1/16" shy all around the edges of hugging the stock airbox. The Napa, stock Mopar and Fleetguard fit perfectly. I bought one of the first nanos out two years ago.

FWIW, a new stock MOPAR filter would pull my filter minder down about half way whether I was towing anything or not - and that was before the PowerPuck. The NAPA Gold filter (#2846) does not have the "pre-filter" or as many pleats but the filter-minder doesn't budge even with the PP set on "100hp". Haven't had it long enough to do a UOA for silicon. My avg. mpg has been 17.9 for the last 3 months (about 1350 miles).

I tried the Amsoil drop in and after a few months, the inside of my intake hose had dust in it. I went back to the factory filter, and haven't had any more dust in the intake hose. For me, I am just going to run the stock filters, as there wasn't any benefit to the Amsoil one, and definately a negative.
