Odd "spill" on engine

Hi all. I will admit I'm a little nervous about putting this post up. As much I would like to know what the following pictures mean, I'm also afraid to find out...anyway, here goes. I noticed this yesterday, its like something spilled or seeped through while hot...I can't say how old it is since I haven't noticed it before...anyway...here they are:

If your lucky maybe its just window washer fluid that came from the hood seal , it looks like it too high [ above ] the head gasget to be that .
Wash off and see if it reapears.
The HG is at the seem below the exhaust manifold.
It also could be leaking from the head bolt , wash and it could be easyer to pin down.

Thumbs up

Check the allen head screws on the top side head and make sure they are tight. There is 4 or 5 in a row.

To me it looks quite common. Most common-rail engines I've looked at seem to have some degree of coolant seepage from around those head bolts and welch plugs on the exhaust side. I'm not sure what Dodge is doing about it, if anything. I'm sure someone here has had some experience with it.

Probably coming from that plug in the top side of the head.
You can, leave it alone or remove it, clean it, apply some teflon tape and put it back in. Mine has been doing it for 54k miles.

take a 3/8 square drive and tighten the coolant plug there and you should be alright , we see that quite often and no big deal , you can see the build up of crusty crap build up around that plug , dont see anything around the heater hose fitting , usually we see leakage there also. rocker box spacer has your normal oil leakage or seepage there also.

You can follow the trail up to that threaded plug on the top of the head. I bet it only leaks cold to. Pressure test it cold and tighten the plug up and it will go away I bet.

Thanks guys for the posts. I feel quite relieved it isn't anything serious. I will look into tightening those bolts.

looks more like something spilled on top of the " valve cover " see the wipe marks there? spilled on the motor, wiped off and then the stuff that was onthe hot side of the block baked dry and left a residue, only thing I can think of that would do that might be rain x windshield wiper fluid...... or you spilled armor all but that cover doesn't look like its ever seen that material

Dont tighten the bolts. Just the plug with the 3/8 recessed hole. Those bolts are head bolts and are torqued to spec. The plug is what you want to tighten. That anti-freeze makes nice white stains when it leaks and dries. Dead give away when checking for a coolant leak.
