When I was living in Tx, the law stated that the turbo was considered a muffler, did they change that rule?

According to this paragraph the turbo is like a muffler

Muffler defined: Muffler is a device consisting of a series of chambers or baffle plates or other mechanical design for the purpose of receiving exhaust gas from an internal combustion engine and/or turbine wheels for the purpose of receiving exhaust gas from a diesel engine, both of which are effective in reducing noise.

The above is true, but they rewrote the law stating that any emissions equipment coming on the vehicle from the factory are required to still be in place. unless replaced with something that is as good or better at performing it's stated job.

I hate to be the only one to throw cold water on this, but what happened to just doing the right thing and putting the muffler back on or installing a low back pressure replacement. If y'all spent half as much time in doing the right thing instead of trying to figure out ways to "cheat" the system---including a suggestion of "bribing" someone, everyone one would be a lot better off. If you don't like the law try to get it changed.

took some digging, here's the re-word:

http://www.txdps.state.tx.us/vi/publ...l/chapter4.htm

20.15 Exhaust System - Every motor vehicle shall at all times be equipped with muffler in good working order and in constant operation.

NOTE: On vehicles manufactured or equipped with a muffler and a turbo, the muffler must be present and in good working order.

The exhaust system includes the manifolds, gaskets, exhaust lines, mufflers, resonators, tailpiping, and supporting hardware.

Motor vehicles cannot be equipped with a muffler which is perforated or which was perforated and has been repaired, either by a muffler repair jacket or by patching or in any other way. In those cases where a muffler is perforated at the time of an inspection or has been perforated and has been repaired previous to the inspection, the muffler must be replaced or the vehicle rejected.

can you guys spare me a little of this "government = god" stuff?

how can you cheat a corrupt system?

love God and your neighbor, but don't feel obligated to line the pockets of crooked politicians. I'd rather line the pockets of the blue collar guy at the inspection station

The kings heart is in the hand of the Lord, as the rivers of water: he turneth it whithersover he will. Proverbs 21:1
The only reason there is government is because of God.
You dont have to believe it, its just so.

I got on Summit's website when I failed my inspection for no muffler and got a cheepo 4" straight through (only about a foot long) and put it in. I actually liked the sound better with it on and left it after they passed my truck and put the sticker on.
