New trans pan or not?

I should have all my new trans parts tomorrow from Dave Goerend (vb/tc/billet input/billet flex/1/2lever).
I don't tow anything and don't think I ever will.
Is it worth it to spend the money on a PML or Mag tranny pan w/ extra capacity for cooling? Do I/should I spend the extra $. This is already alot of money to spend... Honest answers appreciated...

Trik, dad just put his Goerend 47 tranny in and he ask Dave when he order it if there was any gain. Dave told him the only thing you are gaining is capacity. To me, it seems that 2-4 extra quarts would take longer to cool, but it also would take longer to heat up, soooo. Dad did put the PML pan on the new tranny cause he found a good deal one one.

I installed the double deep mag-hytec pan. So far I love it. I feel more confident that the trans temps are cooler or at least give a bigger margin for error. They provide an easy place to install a probe for the trans temp gauge. And, they make it easier to drain the fluid for filter/fluid changes. You still have to remove the pan anyway to change the filter, but it is alot easier to remove an empty pan than one full of fluid.

Is it absolutely necessary? No. But it is a nice addition if you feel you can spare the extra cash.

Those cast aluminum pans add a lot of strength to the transmission case over the wimpy steel unit.

I got a PML pan for around $150.00 same capacity as the Mag but $100.00
less

And I've yet to see over 180 degrees even with back to back runs at the track.

When I was shopping tranny parts - I bought from Dave too - EVERYONE ( I talked to about 8 of the shops about the pan) said it was not necessary for me. I tow a 9000lb(loaded) camper.
Heck, if you want it - it's only money.
