New II Phatshaft 71
#16
My truck is getting ready to be a designated sled pulling truck. It's gettiing a stage 3 pump, Flux 4's, cam, springs, and a new turbo. What would be the best turbo to run with this application? I want to be able to drive it around and still do some 1/4 mile stuff every once in a while, so I guess it won't be used for sled pulls only.
I'm leaning toward the A5000. Anyone know where to find one for a great price? Or should I go with something like this 71?

I would like to know the specs on the A5000. Didnt find it on thier site, is the compressor larger than 66mm? And do they hold together well for race duty... really would like to make a great decision on my turbo. Ive spoke with II and HTT and both says thiers is the best.. between the 2 66"s would yall like the HTT pro street66, 66/71/14------- or II, super phat shaft 66/71/14 better? Since thier the same size will they preform exactly the same....Thanks i know if you move up to the silver bullet you get 66/74/14 would there be much diff.

You can have 3 different exhaust housings on the A5k.
Cummins, Duramax, Twins....
The Cummins is the tightest and spools ok for a daily...I drove mine 100k hard daily...towing etc. Loves 2000 rpms and up. The duramax is a little bigger and the Twins is the biggest. Wicked uses (used) the twins housing when he made his 800 plus numbers.
It might be "drivable" at lower elevations...

The phatshat 71 can be daily drivable but it needs alot of fuel to get it spooled up. I talked to Brady at IIS about the one he had on his and he said it didn't tow well, just had keep it reved up too high for it to stay spooled and if you had to let out it is hard to get it lit again. IIS says it is good for comp. use only. I have a custom turbo that has a K31 wheel and a silver bullet exhaust wheel and housing, but haven't drove it enough to say to much about it yet. Seems to spool good but dose have some surge in the lower rpms.

I was told the same thing by a guy that knows alot about turbos. so when I bought when I went with the A5K and I dont think it was a mistake

well the boost gauge barely moves when you just cruise around .
alot of guys bash on them because you cant tow with them. if you pull something heavy its not the turbo for you. I fully agree with that. but my truck at this moment is still daily driven and I dont think it has any more surge than the sps66 I had on my 05. I drive it everywhere, its not lightning fast spool up but it doesnt take all day either. I was told by a member on here that his 66 didnt last long on a heavy fueled truck. not saying none of them will but he went to an aurora 5000 and has been running that for a while now and competition sled pulls. it does have some lag but injectors helped that out alot. I hope this answers your questions
