New HTT 64/71/13 at the Track

This is unbelievable. Last time out with the stock turbo and beta 4.4 I ran a 13.86. Today with the new turbo and 4.4 I ran a best of 16.49 @ 94.54mph with a 3.092 60'.

Some other runs...

Beta 4.4 #9
16.86 @ 94.14mph
3.249 60'
Max Boost = 33psi
Max EGT = 1580

Wild #9
15.82 @ ?
2.794 60'
Max Boost = 33psi
Max EGT = 1640

Wild #8 Stacked w/Quad XZT
15.54 @ 95.93mph
2.783 60'
Max Boost = 34psi
Max EGT = 1645

So I guess I do have a serious spooling issue. The highest I could get the boost while staging was 4psi. That was with the pedal all the way to the floor. I ran all runs in 2wd since tire spin was not a problem. The ambient temp was about 15-20* hotter today than my last runs. I assume that difference would contribute about 50-60* to the max EGT's. It still isn't cooling much better than the stocker which was hitting 1583 on most runs with 4.4.

Looks like my options are:

1) Talk to HTT and hope it's just a bad actuator or something (wishful thinking ).
2) Get more fuel....somehow.
3) Go back to the stock turbo and add water injection to keep temps down.

I have plans to get injectors and a stage II CP3, but I'm in the process of moving and can't really deal with having the truck down during the next month or two. At this point though, I really don't feel like doing another turbo swap and installing water injection.

Any ideas on boxes/programmers/stacks that might give better spool-up? I have a BD w/Scary Larry coming, but not sure if that's gonna help much.

what were your fuel pressures?? rail and supply?
what about the DIY cp3 mod?? that could be done in your driveway and should not take long at all????if that is even the problem????
seems weird to lose that much time on a turbo swap....I thought you could almost guaranteed a big gain with just a turbo?
seems weird to me but I don't have much experience with turbo tuning..I am sure the turbo pros will chime in

I'm pretty sure the rail and CP3 pressures aren't causing the problem. Both seem to be fine. I'll post up the data logs in a little bit.

Hmmm, Four runs at 1500 degrees plus.....I'd start shopping for a shop to do your valve job.... You must have a boost leak at 33psi or your wastegate is opening way too soon....what do you get on the street for max boost. Clamp the wastegate shut and see what you get....I can get 47psi on my Super B...and stay under 1400degrees. Keep the EGT's under 1450. Yep I run water more as a security on the engine than for max power. The stock turbo is a good little turbo. I could run my stock turbo with my huge injectors and cp3.4 and the TST set to defuel at 38psi...It would hit 40psi... and drop back and egts never got over 1400 and the truck was brutally fast. I added the twins and EGT's would hit 1500 pretty quick at 60 to 70psi....with Smarty and TST. Good Luck finding what's wrong....KS

I had the same results as you with the same turbo, I was running low 13s 106 to 107 with the HTB2. with the 64/71-13 I was lucky to get high 14s and nothing but smoke off the line. I was using the smarty 4.3 Bata with TST 2h 0t. I changed my II SB from a 66 to a 62 works much better haven't had it back to the track since

All I feel i've achieved by getting this is a cool sound but I dont think its worth it. Has anybody turned wastegate up? does this alievieate any prblems. I need some help because I am not impressed at all

Well, I got the 64 because I plan to grow into it in the next couple months. I didn't think it would be "unspoolable" with my current setup.

My 64-13ss spools really good, close to stock, max boost is 38-40. Take a close look at where the turbo mounts to the manifold and look for black soot on the block, the rear stud could be too long and hitting the exhaust housing not letting the turbo mount flat to the manifold. Also you may have to take the turbo off and make sure the metal gasket sealed good on the side closest to the engine, if not reuse your stock gasket and use high temp copper silicone on both sides of the gasket. How do I know? I took mine off tonight, was going to put the stocker on and send it back to HTT to have the smaller exhaust housing and wheel swapped out for even quicker spool and found that I was leaking quite a bit of exhaust from these 2 problems. I don't think we will see the boost #'s out of these turbo's like the stocker because the push so much more air, but mine is almost night and day better than the stocker, no #'s to back it up, just feel. Smarty on 4 and TST on 2hp 3te rail pressure 2, timing on 9 max egt is right at 1300.

Also this my turbo took about 150 miles to break in, it was a dog when I first put it on, then after some miles it really took off, and after the problems I found tonight and fixed it's even better.

I hope cause i'm very disapointed. my pyrometer hit 1500 with a wfo run and i hit that in the middle of third gear what's up with that? My stocker did just the same I thought that by me buying a new reputable turbo a would get rid of all the old problems I used to have!!!!!! and I'm fail to see it. If this keeps up Im putting the stocker back on. Seems faster "seem of the pants" just as much boost and same egts for a couple $$$$ less. sorry to complain so much but I was really looking forward to this thing and every body said its the correct turbo for me. If did more fueling mods the truck would just get to hot so that is not an option!!!!
THOUGHT THIS TURBO WOULD GIVE ME ROOM TO GROW HIGH TECH"
GUESS WHAT IT DOESN'T
