NEW Htt 62/71/13ss And ITS SQUEELING

Just installed this new turbo today and it sounds like the fan rotors are hitting the housing. I just paid 800 to have this thing installed and its bad. Does anybody know about what the heck to do next? Anybody ever had this kind of prob b4? I just dont think i ever been so sick in my whole life. I even paid to have this thing overnighted because its my work truck.

You paid someone to do it? They better make it right. Sounds like they did not spin the turbo and get oil in there before they started it.

I would not pay a dime. I'd have the shop call HTT (great customer service, as long as I've known them) and tell them what's up. Someone owes you a new turbo.

Don't give up. Take it to small claims court if necessary.

Pull your intake tube off and look to see if the compressor wheel is actually hitting the housing. There will be evidence on the housing, maybe the shop left something in the intake tube, rag, screw driver???

Check the play on the turbo shaft, a small amount of radial play is ok, as long as it is not hitting the housing, there should be no axial play what so ever. Test how freely it spins, if in fact it is coming in contact with the housing, it is going to have to come off. HTT will be able to tell if it was lack of oil, then your mechanic could be liable....

Are you sure it is not a boost leak? A boost leak can screech very loud and will increase with rpm.

Try not to panic, do a thorough exam first.

update....I was there when turbo was installed (for a little while). I was there and poured royalpurple in the oil inlet and spun the turbo. There was nothing left in the intake or anywhere else to get caught in the turbo. There is no in and out play but there is some up and down play in it. Its got to be scraping on the rear part of the turbo cause i cant see it on the front part. I let it idle for 5 min before giving it any gas. All the directions was read and everything was done to the t when installing. I just at a loss....Would it be ok to drive?

No! Call HTT or whoever you purchased it from first. If the turbine side is hitting the turbine housing vs. the compressor wheel... you break that shaft and you will have oil and debris through your whole intake system.

I had a similar problem/noise when I installed mine, freaked out, I know how you feel. My problem was I missed a couple layers of the rear manifold gasket when I installed the bolt; lined everything back up and all was well. Nothing was wrong with the turbo. Just an FYI.

Well one thing i can say about htt is that these things look like they are made really good. They look alot more solid than the factory turbo. Even know mine is broke i'm glad i spent the extra money because i know when i get it going it will last longer than the factory deal.

Are you serious? Or does that price include a used turbo and installation? Paying $800 for the install alone is robbery in itself. It's a 2 hour job if you lolly gag around and crack open a beer or two while you're chatting with your buddy in between bolting that thing up. If I were you, I would not touch that thing and make whoever goofed up the install take care of it 100% for you. The minute you try to "help" you are on your own as they have a way out. Good luck.

Nobody goofed.......i just got a bad turbo........Period.....1/2 qt of royal purple was added before starting and the turbo was spun. The oil inlet was checked to make sure it was working after i noticed the noise and its pushing a qt a sec so thats no prob either. The oil change has 25 to 30 miles and has no diesel in the oil either. The oil was changed by me and i have always used k&n oil filters and rp. The 800 was more or less a gift for the help to a family member because of a personal issue with them. Its was not a bill it was because i wanted to and thats what they needed. I just didnt know that i would cause so much trouble for them with this mess having to take this thing off again. I dont know what else could have been done. The directions was followed to the T...And My installer is a 32 year vet working on diesel trucks and happens to be my father-n-law...I know i could have came out cheaper having it installed by someone else but i knew it would be done right with him because he is very meticulous and my truck and all of my tools and guns and computer would be fine in his shop. He is only a by the spec kind of person and even uses a tq wrench to tighten his lug nuts. So i am 110% sure it wasnt an install issue.this is about how my luck goes here lately. I just got a call back and they are concerned about me use of royal purple. Shouldnt this oil be ok?

Royal purple is a fine oil. That should not even be an issue.
