New draw straw req'd for 03 aftermarket lift pump?

So, I'm finally looking to replace the lift pump on my 03, which has held up remarkably well for over 140k.

My main concern w/ going to an aftermarket lift pump is the 1/4 tank fuel starvation issue. I have a bad habit of running the tank well into the empty zone before refueling. Also, my truck still has the engine mounted lift pump.

So, my question is this: If going to an aftermarket pump, do I even need to replace anything inside the tank? Can I keep the stock plumbing so I wouldn't need to worry about the 1/4 tank issue?

Also, the stock lift pump remains in place correct?

BTW, I'm looking to go w/ an Airdog but am open to suggestions.

Thanks.

You do not have to remove any of the stock internals inside the fuel tank. Most of the aftermarket kits mount on the frame rail. Unless you go to a Mitusa stlye pump that mounts off the front of the engine. I believe most kits for the 04.5 and below that have engine mounted pump will come with an adapter that mounts in place of the fuel pump on the fuel canister. You will not have to worry about the fuel starvation on your truck.

If you go with the Airdog, you don't have to worry about a draw straw... most of the issues you are thinking of are for the intank mounted pumps for 05's and up. Just connect to the line already coming out out the tank, follow the instructtions to connect to cp3... you will bypass your filter housing completely.

The Airdog 100 for the 03 to 04.5 kit comes with a fitting to use the factory pickup on the top of the tank and will completely bypass the factory fuel filter.

Glacier diesel site has the instructions online for the airdog pumps, read through them a couple of times. Its not hard, the fun part is dropping the tank far enough to get to the pickup line.
