New 10 lug 22.5" Alcoas are on and Awsome

Got my 22.5" Alcoas on with Yokohama 255-70R22.5 tires and with only a 2" leveling kit ( which I already had ) everything clears perfect no rubbing anywhere, I can full turn lock to lock and tires never hit, Hooked up the 5er and all is well there too, I was a little worried about the additional truck height since these tires are 36" high but 5er was already spring over so no problems there either. Where I am having a problem is trying to upload pictures to my gallery. Apparently my 8.2 megapixel SLR is a little too much in the pixel dept for uploading so until I figure out how to set a lower megapixel I am posting a picture of a truck just like mine with 22.5" Alcoas
P.S 2 years ago I was going to go with 19.5s or 22.5" wheels but a few people posted saying I would lose some of the ride and drive/ride more like a truck with the 14ply tires, edit I swear these tires ride nicer than my stock tires and a buddy who has a Dmax that rides very smooth (I think) He says he likes the ride better than his truck too, I wonder if others with this set up are running the 80+ lb psi in there tires? I was told to run 45psi in the fronts and 40lbs in the duallys and its nice even with the 5er hooked up, I also like the idea of getting 100k+ miles out of a set of tires I read somewhere about someone with the same set up on a dodge dually and said he had 200k on his tires, Heck I'll be Very happy if I get 100k since now I cant get past 25k with the stockers

Daytripper, Aired down I'm sure they are ok for ride....the biggest thing I remember was the heavy sprung weight, the gearing for keeping the torque for towing, and the weight and diameter versus braking. I love the look and would love to have a set but the added weight does me no good for gcwr. The tires should last longer but they are pretty expensive to start although these 17's are such a rip off compared to 16" ers. I hope to hear more as you get to tow and travel with them....best of luck and keep us informed. ks

Check out www.chromewheel.com

Does anyone know how these wheels look on a 2500 (i.e. single rear wheel)?

Also, how much do these tires run for just the tires? I think I will buy the wheels from the Chromewheels.com guys, but is there a good place to buy tires? thanks fellas....

I am just speculating, but I would think as lite as these trucks are, even with trailers, compared to what these tires are rated at I would look for recaps. I would assume they sould be a lot cheaper and surely they would last.

DT63 how much performance did you loose. In terms of acceleration and breaking. Im hoping to do this someday as well with the recaps like wap suggested.

Well with braking i do have to put a little more pressure on the pedal for a hard stop but for normal driving I use my PacBrake almost everywhere so I will say the first time I had to do a panic stop it caught me a little off guard due to the need for more foot pressure, but its not bad.
Performance/acceleration: I have a 5speed (my truck WAS an Calif. S.O. once upon a time ) And with 3.73 gears my first gear is no longer a granny, I used to start off in 2nd gear before but that is no longer the case but if you have a 6speed you have a true granny compared to just a low first gear like mine but I have already hooked up my 5er (10k lbs) and the first gear is still just fine for towing if anything I will be able to tow in 4th gear now on the freeway and do 60-65 comfortably without towing in 5th like before, after all with the adjustability of my TST box I can make any gear/tire diameter work But I think my overall drivability of the truck is smoother. I took a road trip today and in 5th gear @ 55mph =1500rpm 65mph=1750rpm and round trip 95%freeway I got 20.7mpg and my primary cruise speed was 68mph about 80% of the trip, before the tire change the only way I could break 20mpg was if I set the cruise control at 55mph and alot of flat ground. This was with TST box set at 4-1 first half of trip and 2-1 second half
P.S. I wouldn't run recaps on the front these are 14ply tires and if one comes apart it is going to shred our little trucks plus when I searched online for 255-70R22.5 I could find some for a reasonable price in comparison to what our stock 17" tires cost

Daytripper,

This is so very cool!!! Do you know anyone else that has this mod done? I would like to see what it would look like on a 2500 SRW. Would there just be 4 front wheels all the way around? Not too sure what that would look like. Thanks for all the input. You have really sparked an interest.
