Nelson or Donaldson? ('06)
Currently running a Banks cat-back that the PO put on. The 65-70mph drone is unbearable, it needs to go. Don't want to go back to stock, but need a quieter muffler. I've done lot's of searching and it appears the Donaldson/Nelson mufflers are well liked, but my head is spinning from all the posts I read....need a summary (size and part numbers if possible) on what will work best for my truck: '06 Quad 4x4 AT, stock cat. I know I'll need to run the shorter (41") muffler...of the 2 mentioned above, which is more quiet?

I'm running a 9'in Donaldson resonator on mine. I had it straight piped for a week and the drone was to much. This little stubby resonator does job perfectly! Good deep sound without the drone.

I doubt anyone has heard both mufflers back to back to give an honest comparision. I do believe you could run the 51" muffler even with the cat in place though I think with the cat the truck may be even quieter than stock
My system with no cat is just a tad louder than stock with a deeper note (5" pipe doesn't hurt)
You never stated whether you Banks was 4 or 5" but I would say to go with the 41" muffler, your drone will be history.

40" Nelson 86127
Just had a 40" (end to end) Nelson 86127 put in, sounds like a stocker till you get into it, 4" in and out straight through, $67 from my local Cumins store, more pics in my gallery.

Thanks for all the great responses and helping this "newb" out! The Bank's sys I have now is 4" w/ "Monster" muffler. I would like to replace this muffler and use the existing plumbling for whatever I put in it's place. Thanks for the Rokktec info, and for the Nelson part#. Does Donaldsaon make an equivelent 40"-41" muffler?

Donaldson are similar to Nelson, there's cross reference charts around somewhere, here's a link to Donaldson:

I have also had a Rokktech muffler on and installed 3 of them on my buddies trucks.. It is a great muffler but no different than the donaldson except 3 times the price. For the money go with the donaldson..
