Need some cheap mud tires for winter

I'm getting ready to buy a set of tires for my stock wheels to run this winter. I have the stock steel ugly wheels.

I spend much of the winter hunting and the roads see quite a bit of salt. My XD badlands and toyos will be coming off the truck by mid october for the winter and I need to get a set of good cheap mud tires for the winter. I need something that' s going to wear decent for a mud tire, but don't really care how loud they just need a cheap set of tires for 17" any suggestions?

In my opinion, tires aren't the place to go cheap.

In the winter, for my 2wd truck, I run 235/80R17E Cooper S/T's on the plain steel wheels (17x 7.5).

These tires were a little cheaper than the big name brands but they are of excellent quality.
They are agressive and a little noisy on dry pavement but excellent in our Canadian winter and snow.
Narrower than the stock 265's but a little taller. Narrower tires are best in snow.

Cooper does make a true winter tire in both 265/70R17E and 235/80R17E but they are very soft rubber.
They would likely perform better on snow and ice but wear out very quickly. Just like Blizzacks.

...Just my thoughts... Joe..

Another way to go for what you are looking for is researching commercial traction tires that are M/T... They tend to be pretty tough on the road and less so on the wallet. Cooper ST-C comes to mind.

When I say cheap I don't mean bottom of the line just not toyo's or Mickey T's or BFG's.

I will need a mud tire not just a winter tire, I spend much of the winter using my truck for hunting

Try a set of Maxxis Buckshot Mudders. I have ran them before and was very pleased with them. Easy on the wallet too compared to the big names.

I agree with the Maxxis Mudders. Pretty good mud and snow tread but won't last on the pavement. Also, not going to set you back anywhere near as much as Toyo MT's.

I had a set of Hankooks in a 315/70/17 and they were pretty good tires. They didn't last as long as I hoped but were really good tires. They also behave well on the street. I'm leaning towards the Hankooks or the buckshots.

Check out Wildcat EXT tires. I've previously had Maxxis buckshot mudders and the Wildcats outperformed in every way, especially in mud. They will basically turn your truck into a tractor. I think they are less $$ too.

Go to craigslist, you can always find someone selling decent stuff.

I use firestone destination MT's. They are studded with #17 studs. They worked fairly good last winter.

Almost pulled the studs out for sled pulling -- but found it too difficult.

I think I paid $167.00 a tire from discount tire or the tire rack.
