Unhappy Need performance parts help please!

I hate making my first post on a forum a help me post, but I'm at a loss and hope you Dodge guys can help out. I bought an 04 Ram with the HO Cummins about a month ago, the truck was great stock and I should have left it alone, but I couldn't quite keep up with my friends 7.3 Powerstroke (yes he has some goodies). First thing I installed was gauges, Trans temp, boost, and Pyro. the pyro is in the exhaust manifold about 3/4" from the bottom of the manifold flange where it bolts to the turbo. Next I did the K&N intake, no problems so far. I bought the Bully Dog Tripple Dog programmer on Monday and found I really couldn't use it because the EGT's climed way too high really fast, I'd heard the EGT's shouldn't get above 1250 at the manifold and I can hit that easily with the lowest programs on the new programmer. Well next I figure I need the get temps down to enjoy the new programmer so I bought a Magnaflow 5" turbo back system today and I still can't use the programmer, it's a little better but even the stock program get's the EGT's too high. I took the programmer out and I can get the Pyro to rear in the 1175 range, on a stock truck with an intake and a 5" exhaust. Something doesn't seem right to me, is my 1250 EGT range off, or am I missing something?? I'm about to put the stock exhaust back on it tomorrow and leave it alone. Any imput from you guys would be great. Thanks, Brian

The 600's can handle about 1450 degree spikes, and 1350 Sustained. The 555HO can handle 1350 Sustained.

Dont stop at 1250. Run her up to 1350. My BD on performance will hit 1400 at about 85mph full throttle.

Good to know, I can put the Pyro at 1400 without trying, I've done it accidentaly and haven't gone over but it's nerve racking. Thanks for the input.

just put a little bit bigger turbo, that should keep you cool enough. the stock turbos are not good for about anything over stockm.

Thanks guys, filled out the sig so it should show up this post the only things done to the truck are lissted in the first post in case it doesn't. I'm assuming a boost elbow replaces the small elbow between my turbo and exhaust,
I had hoped to put an exhaust brake there in the future. I really think I'm just going to go back to stock.

A boost elbow is install on air line on turbo going from wastegate to turbo it will allow wastegate to stay closed longer so turbo can spool higher boost which sounds like your motor is desperate for air to cool down those EGT'S.
But there is a chance of blowing that turbo with a elbow as you will work that stocker hard when WOT!!

I would keep everything you got on the truck and keep going to where you are Happy!!

I love my truck its like drive a corvette since a corvette does not have a chance!!!

If you want to spend the little extra $$$ a new charged-air cooler(intercooler) and a high ram will drop those ETG's a good bit. Also make or buy a ramair kit that picks up air from your undercarrage and removed that plastic cover to the left of your condensor. I have the K&N also and the more cold air you get in that air-intake the cooler the ETG's. The new intercooler and highram is cheeper then a turbo, but the turbo has more bang for the buck.

Oh, and return that exhaust system and just run a straight pipe, 4" exhaust is more then enough.

Thanks for the input guys, I'm probably going to ditch the 5" it's too loud for my taste. The intake and intercooler are next on my list. I reprogrammed the truck this morning and it seens to be running cooler than yesterday, maybe the program didn't take the last time, I don't know. I've got a little over 60k left on my warranty so I don't think I want to get into a turbo just yet, maybe I'll get 2 after the warranty is up! It's just so depressing when you can't lean on it because of the temps.
