Need ideas on Homemade Fuel Filtering System
Okay this is where I'm at: I bought a Glacier Diesel Mechanical Fuel Boss pump but I should've got the MK-2 Micron Filter system when I ordered it and like a monkey I didn't, so i was pondering the idea of making my own frame rail mounted unit. The Fuel Boss system comes with 3/8 hose and fittings which replace the 1/4 steel lines. I figure I can rig a system just after the fuel tank because the Fuel Boss pump will have more than enough jam to pull fuel from that location where as the MK-2 system Richard has mounts near the engine just underneath the intake horn for the purpose of saving the tank mounted lift pump. I'm basically trying to save myself 106 bucks on shipping charges from the states as I do live in Canada. Anybody with ideas and where I can get parts let me know. Thanks

carter # P4601HP
runs 18psi with an internal regulator.

One thing, it's a lot better to put anything restrictive (filters, etc. )on the pressure side of a fuel pump (same for oil pump, Gene Berg used to remove the oil strainers from VW motors for this reason ) You have a max of 14.7 psi at sea level pushing something towards you if you are 'sucking' it, but lot's more if your pressurizing it (up to what the pump will push). I got a fuel boss too (haven't put it in yet, waiting for that filter kit you're talking about plus a vent mod kit from Richard) and I bet the set up for the filter is AFTER the pump. It's a nice looking fuel pump, isn't it? Super complete IMO.

I have a buddy who on his 04 and 06 duallys tied his 2 vent lines coming off the fuel tank together and tee'd them off into one hose, then slipped an inline filter as a breather. The reason he did this was because supposedly the build up of mud and dirt around the breathers are getting into the tank eventually. He figures that with the little filter the hoses can breathe but not let anything get into the tank. Has anyone else ever thought of this before?
