That sums it up right there.^^^

Keep us posted on your install.

Update

After installing a 5/16" bypass, I'm finally satisfied with the pressures I'm seeing. At warm idle pressure at the cp3 is 23psi. At 65mph I have 20psi at the cp3. And at wot (90mph was all conditions allowed) cp3 had 12psi. This is with my mildly modded truck. It's all good

Hi, Trik,

Here's something I still don't understand. If you had elected to use an inline regulator around the CP, would that make the pressure the same from idle to WOT, assuming the pump can push that?

Or, in other words, is it the bypass that's causing the relatively low FP at WOT?

Thanks.

The Walbro is supplying enough fuel the the return line & the CP3 is being fed enough fuel to cause a back pressure that Trik is saying he has. At WOT the CP3 is using more fuel at thus the drop in FP. A seperate return line, and a reg that can withstand the high flow, press of the Walbro, would keep the FP more consistant. The reg would do best if mounted right before the CP3. I have a 2nd gen but I'm needing to redo my FP as well. I was looking at the walbro a while ago, but a supplier of them said they would not work with diesel. Obviously they will.

If I wanted/needed a more constant psi, I would install a regulator. My current fuel needs don't require that expense. As already stated, the Walbro can push over 100psi, so that isn't the issue.
12psi at wot is more than double, almost triple what I was seeing with the stock lift pump. I'm very happy with the current setup ...

Good Work!

Trik
Thanks for the writeup and glad it worked so well.

Did you end up using a strainer pre-pump?

Sure would like to see a bunch of pics.................please?

Did you use the 392 pump? nevermind, just checked your link I noticed
they are out for now.

I'm pretty sure I'm going to do something similar within a few months. Thanks
to guys like you that are doing the groundwork.

Larry

No strainer/filter pre-pump. I'm going to add a 2micron filter after the stock 10micron. I used the 392 and there are other places to buy them, just not as cheap. I've got alot of pics, just haven't posted them here yet. Some are on another site. I'll get around to putting them on here someday soon...

As far as a lot of the dealers are concerned, the problems were fixed with the advent of the 3rd gen.
Add me to the list of those who didn't know. I'd read some of outright LP failures - a lot seemed to be in Canada...

I'm about to get my third CP3 installed and I talked to the dealer about the possibility of the LP causing it. The mechanic said that was a 2nd gen problem for sure but he didn't know about any other 3rd gens having it. I don't know what the Service Writer thinks - I'd guess they'll only do what STARS tells them. I've got 2 more years on the warranty of the latest CP3...

What about pre-fuel filter pressures? Do you plan on monitering them to make sure you don't get any cracked lids?

BTW I can't find any 5/16" ID hose for the friggen bypass anywhere, well not rated for this application anyway...Where did you come across some? I may just have to go with the 3/8" I have on hand...

You could monitor pre filter pressure. I'm not currently doing that. I've got anywhere from 20-23psi at cp3, figuring 5or6psi for line and filter restriction, I'd guess I have 25-29psi at the filter. I've had higher and no problems.
I got my fuel line from PepBoys which is a large auto parts chain in my area. 5/16" fuel injection line. Paid like $4 for 18".
