Is my truck's power level stock?
I have a new to me 05 2500 CC 4x4 auto. I love the truck. It drives great and has tons of power for a stock truck which is why I'm asking about the power level of it. I'm definitely not complaining, but it almost seems like too much power and smoke for a stock truck. I don't get any smoke unless I really get on it, but if I give her about 3/4 or more throttle at any speed below 70mph I get a decent little black cloud. If I give 3/4 or more throttle from below about 20-30mph I get a pretty good size cloud of smoke. I just kinda figured that a truck this new wasn't suppose to have any smoke at any time if it were stock. I tried searching the forum, but no luck. Thanks Ken.

From the sounds of it I would have to say that it has a programmer on it or it has been programmed. I have yet to see a stock truck leave a noticable cloud. The fact that it has also been straight piped leads me to beleive that whoever had was bitten by the mod bug.

Well the straight pipe was done by me just the other day, but it has smoked since I got it. Under the right conditions I can get enough of a cloud to about block out a car behind me for a sec. To the best of my knowledge everything aside from the exhaust is stock. I just figured that the smoke was an indication of a light program having been installed. So a stock truck should not do more than say a light grey haze? That sound about right? Thanks for your opinion.

I am kinda in the same boat here. I can blow some black smoke if I mash the pedal at pretty much any rpm. Not quite to the same degree by the sounds of it. But my truck is stock as far as I know as well. How can we tell for sure if the truck has had something downloaded? Also I intend to get a smarty, if there is a previous tune of some kind on the truck will that create problems with downloading the smarty program?

I can blow some smoke w/ my stock 06. I know its stock programming because I just had it at the dealership for high idle enable and ecm updates.
I think the a stock truck is greatly affected by altitude. When I had my 04.5, I lived in San Diego, sea level. I could only puff a light grey haze. When I would visit CO before moving here, I could blow a heavy grey/black smoke. Not like a train, but very noticable.
Now in CO, I am between 5,280ft when in town and 8,500ft at home, and my stock truck will blow a little black smoke, it clears right away, but its there.
I cant diagnose your truck, but a stocker will smoke a little.
