My track comparison - TST, BDDL, Smarty

Spent a frustrating night at the track trying different boxes, downloaders and stacks.

My best 1/4 run last year was with BDTD performance, TST w/twins 6/4, EZ 2
1.90 60'
8.46 1/8 @84mph
13.25 1/4 @102mph

I now know that I had the TST way to high and was running rail dry about 3/4 way through the 1/4 mile.

I have not been racing this year, needed flexplate and was afraid to run with the stock one. Well that issue was solved a week ago testing the Smarty. Now that I have a new Sun Coast Laminated flexplate I can play somemore.

Engine is basically stock on 315s, except for FASS, AFE Stage II, High flow muffler and II SPS66. Everything else is still on the list, but money tree died.

The rest is plug in or download.

These are the best runs with the different boxes, downloaders and stacks.

First TST 5/2 and EZ 2
1.91 60'
8.67 1/8 @81.52mph
13.57 1/4 @100.36mph

Anything higher on TST or EZ ran rail dry and ETs went up.

Second BDTD ver 2.3.1 CL and EZ 1.
1.97 60'
9.01 1/8 @76.38
14.22 1/4 @92.91

Good launch, decent 60' but just kind of flattened out.

Third BDTD CL, TST 3/1 and EZ 2
1.81 60'
8.43 1/8 @81.35mph
13.31 1/4 @100.23mph

Best 60' time all night, run felt good all the way, just did not make any number.
Any higher on the TST and the popping was really bad.

Fourth Smarty SW 9 and EZ 1
1.93 60'
8.41 1/8 @83.99mph
13.16 1/4 @102.22

Took a while to get boost up at the line, smoke was very, very bad.
Still was the best ET ever, up to that point.

Fifth Smarty SW 8, TST 3/0 and EZ 1
1.95 60'
8.41 1/8 @84.82mph
13.08 1/4 @104.54

So dam close to 12s, but just did not happen tonight.

I made 15 or 16 passes and by that time both the truck and me were hot and tired.
I tried a lot of different combos, but there were many more to try, just not time. Most were close the same times, or just bad because of TST popping really bad. That started the BOV spittin' all over the place.
I still had problems with launches, I was all over the place with boost, sometimes could not get boost to build no matter what I did and other times it would climb to 8-10psi and then jump straigt to 35. I guess its just me.

It is obvious I need Timing option on TST box and a modded cp3 at least.

Rail Pressure gauge should be here Wednesday, on by Saturday and I will be meeting a bunch of Hemi guys at the track next Sunday and try again.

If I could have put my best 60' with my best trap, would have been in the 12s. So close.

Need sponsor for my modded cp3, studs, injectors, cam, springs, silver bullet upgrade and a little blue bottle. Until then I will find a way to get in the 12s by October with what I have.

Tonight's Conclusion:

TST - need timing option and early twins program. I guess I will have to order one of the new units.
BDTD w/CL - I did not get the overall results that a lot post, but it did give the best 60' time. It is also much less smoke driving on the street than Smarty.
Smarty - I can't argue with the numbers. It has produced my best ETs to date. Too bad the smoke on mine is just plain nasty daily driving.

Wow

Pretty impressive comparisons, thanks for the info.

Your #'s are still very good and I'm sure you will get where you want to be pretty soon.

So you ran the regular TST timing in that stack with the CLDL and the Smarty? Any funny sounds?

It is the R49 w/late twins program and normal timing. In the stacks depending on levels there was a pretty good rattle. The higher the TST HP level the more rattle. Not too scarry, but very noticable.

Any time I get the TST too high with any stack even the EZ it will start popping very bad on hard launch WOT. I am guessing either to much timing or running the rail dry depending on the stack. I think OT-OF-HERE as been able eliminate the popping with the adjustable timing option in his stacks. I have to wait and see what the new TST box with all the bells and whistles has and decide which upgrade/replacement to do. It's only money I guess.

Just don't know. I was watching the boost gauge and not the rpms. But I am pretty sure that I was over 2200rpms for some of the launches while trying to get boost up. Maybe why I could not build boost sometimes? Ok, next time I will watch both, of course that is looking two different directions while trying to make sure what is going on on the light tree, pressing hard on brake pedal and not so hard on throttle and the whole time trying not to forget where the TC lockup switch is .

Dam reflexes at my age are questionable at best and trying to do more than one thing at a time is harder everyday . Its ok though I have been laughed at on the track before .

3 boxes is killing your rail pressure big time. our trucks are pretty close so ill tell you what worked for me. ez on 4 and tst early twins 4/2. times are in my profile. ez on 4 and tst on 5/2 was 1/2 second slower with lots of smoke and high egts. 4/2 and ez on 4 my egts are 1250 at the end of the track and with nos they hardly reach 1000. try those setting and see how they play out for you.

Maybe, hopefully I will know when I get the Rail Pressure gauge on. The EZ on level 1 is not much pressure or does not seem like much. Since you can't turn the EZ off unless you disconnect it I just left it on all night.

Your right,... I did finally get rid of the pop with the TST adj timing feature. In fact this past weekend while driving to the Lake I had the Smarty on 7 w/timing and the TST on 3* (anything more and the injector rattle is not a sound I prefer) and the TST '05 Twins was on 8/2 and man that is a serious bump going up to lvl 8!!!! With the modified torq mgt of the Smarty the shifts were incredibly snappy. No friggin' POP either!!!!!!

One thing I finally was able to validate on this trip since I had a friend following me and we were two-waying on the trip,... with the Smarty and the TST I am exactly 10mph over what my speedo says. Anyone else seeing that?

Adjust your tire size? And if that is really the case...my truck is way (10 mph) faster than before! LOL
