Question Which muffler or resonator with stacks?

I'm adding 5" stacks to my '03 and need any recommendations on mufflers or resonators that I can get. I love the straight pipe sound but I tow heavy 50% of the time or more. Is there any way to get the straight pipe/semi sound without going deaf towing 15,000 lbs? BTW the shorter the better. Kinda tight on space under there! As you can see in my sig I have the DPPI system now but the drone under a load is pretty bad on the highway.

Most people I know with stacks are straight piped and it actually sounds pretty good. Figure with stacks, you are throwing all the noise straight up in the air away from everyone, so its not that bad. If you just want to putting something on, maybe consider a 10" resonator. These things are hollow inside. A big empty space for the sound to bounce around in. The Donaldson mufflers that everyone likes for their quietness has a smaller version of one of these built into the end of them. That's how they keep the noise level down with a short straight through muffler. They also get rid of the raspy ricer sound, leaving a deep tone. You can get them in 4" or 5" in/out. Check it out: http://shop.airflowonline.com/Mercha...ategory_Code=R

Wouldn't buy one from Air Flow unless I had to. They want about $40 over MSRP. Find one locally. Good luck.

Ever get your BHAF figured out?

Summit Racing has a Dynomax race bullet muffler that guys have used to take the edge off the straight pipe without killing all the sound. It's cheap and short, comes in 4 inch and 5 inch. Hope this helps.

AK RAM,

Good to hear from you! I think I may have found a BHAF that will work with nothing other than a 5" to 4.25" heavy wall black PVC elbow. It should just fit and leave room for a diamond plate cover to block water. It's shaped more like an automotive filter in that it is 12.5" diameter and only around 9" tall with a 5" outlet. Just got it from the factory. Problem is I got side tracked building my stack setup. I picked up a Donaldson M090595 at the last minute before the holiday weekend but I didn't notice that it's not a true straight thru design. I'm sitting here, waiting for the rain to quit, debating on knocking the baffle plug out and turning it into a 20" resonator. Just hate to modify an $80.00 muffler, find out that it's too loud, and have to scrap it and get the regular Donaldson. These stacks have gotten spendy in a big hurry!
