Muffler HELP. Magnaflow 24" or 30" or Aero 4040L

It's down to 3.
The Magnaflows are 24" body, 30" overall or the 30" body, 36" overall or the Aero Turbine 4040XL.
I have a 06 CTD Megacab. All I want to do is replace the muffler with one of these choices. I want lower temps and a nice low rumble sound and NOT much louder that stock. I like a quite cab.
I've heard and read that MBRPs are on the louder side especially when compaired to the Magnaflow and Aero 4040L (with resonator)

Who has one of these Magnaflows? How is the drone? I have a Megacab so I will be keeping the stock resonator to help with that.

Has anybody heard a Magnaflow and an Aero 4040XL?

The stock muffler in and out are offset and I need a ss pipe to make up that difference.Where do you buy the "s" pipe to make up for the different heights becuase the replacement mufflers are all straight through?

Please help so I can order oneof these set-ups. **** you guys cost me money.

I had the Aeroturbine, well still do, but I put a 30" MBRP in also. The Aeroturbine sounded good, except when I had to pull something, which is about 50% or more of the time. The Aero alone was annoyingly loud when pulling, but sounded good when it was just the truck. With both mufflers on the truck, it is just a little bit louder at idle, but still has a nice deep tone when you hit the go peddle. I like the sound now better than I did with the truck in stock config., or straight piped, or with just the Aeroturbine on.

Do you have the the Aero 4040 or the 4040XL? The added noise and drone was fixed with the built in resonator in the 4040XL

I've got the 30" Magnaflow. It changes tone and I know it is there, but it is barely any louder, more or less a different tone with a touch more volume.

I used band clamps from Jeg's and only cut the stock exhaust. I did not need any additional pipe. It did change the angle of the tip to up by the rerar panel, but I think it looks better tucked up there anyway.

I had the 4040L and didn't like the sound of it. It sounded a little too choppy to me. Just imagine what a diesel would sound like with a fart can muffler... That's just my opinion. Many guys like them- I don't. I did like the sound at idle though. A nice, healthy rumble.

How do you measure a muffler? Is it overall length or body length?

I have the 24" Magnaflow on my '03. If you don't want loud or drone, my advice would be to stay away from that one. It's loud. Especially when you put your foot into it.

Towing, uphill, there is quite a bit of drone.

With a chip on the truck, it gets even louder. However, I like the sound. I've towed my trailer from Phoenix to Ontario, CAN. Most of the time, I had the radio off, with the windows down, just so that I could hear the exhaust note. Kind of like having a 4-wheel-drive Harley.

I've heard good things about a newer muffler called the "Silent Might". It's supposed to be very efficient but, not loud & with no drone. If I were you, I would look into this muffler & add it to your list. At least check it out.

Good Luck.

Funny story to tell in regards to an '03 with that muffler.

I had ordered mine the day before I heard this one. Very loud and I got scared. I think that the lack of cat on the '03 is what causes it. Like I've already said, mine is no comparison to that.

I just put on the 30" Magnaflow with an 18" resonator mounted before it off the downpipe. Like GOTMEAT said earlier, it's got a very nice tone at idle and during light throttle. During hard throttle it sounds louder and more aggresive (but not obnoxious), with no drone problem noticed at highway speeds. However, I haven't tried pulling a heavy load with it yet, so I can't say for sure there is no drone potential.

To me having a resonator mounted in front of the muffler is key for the '03 & early '04 trucks, as we don't have a CAT to help smooth out the exhaust rasp.

I have the 4040L and I didnt want it much louder than stock just wanted more perfomance a cooleer egt's. I am very pleased, I would do it the same way if I had to do it over. Also seems to take off faster no feeling like a rubber band winding up anymore.

I've had no drone with a heaviest load of 11,000#. Cruise at 1900 rpm.

I welded the 4040L directly to the down pipe, followed by the cat shell, with a turndown just behind the cab. Engine breathes very well, and sounds great from idle to WOT... many times, I've been mistaken for a semi, but there's no raspiness or drone.
