Muffler Eliminator
Im not sure if this is the right thread to ask this.
I have read that some have replaced the muffler with a elimanitor part from Genos. I was curious as to how much of an increase in noise was noticed inside the cab after this was installed? Was there any increase in MPG?
Thanks.

I didn't get Geno's pipe, I just went to the local muffler shop and had them remove my muffler and weld a 4" pipe in it's place. It cost me $50 and it uses the stock hangers.
At cruise going down the highway it is not much louder than stock. While accelerating it is louder, especially if you are passing a car or going under a bridge. Also, forget sneaking out of the house to hang out with your buddies. The wife will hear you leaving .
The main benefits I noticed were 150 degrees cooler EGT's at cruise on the highway and about 1 MPG better mileage. I did replace all my fuilds in the drivetrain with RP at about the same time, so that probably also conrtibuted to the mileage increase.
With that said, I love the way it sounds. Many of my coworkers say it sounds like a Peterbilt coming down the road.

I did the muffler & cat delete on mine and it costed me $55 for 6' chunk of 4" pipe and a buddy welded it in for free. It sounds sweet with the turbo ring mod I did. At about 10-30psi the turbo just sings. If you like loud exhaust then go for it for sure. People frown tho when I brap the throttle cruseing slowing around the mall parking lot or thru my neightborhood.

I had mine straight piped for a while... It drove me crazy on long haul trips, not to mention the wife hated it too. I later went with my current set up with the magnaflow. Alot less drone, sound is much deeper, wife is pleased.... All is well again.

mbenedict, Get rid of the muffler and get an aftermarket one with better flow and by doing so, you will lower your EGT's and gain a few extra horses

Ever takin a look at the factor cat? You can't see through it. THere is aftermarket ones that are pretty much straight thru. I had them on my gasser when I did the exhaust on it.

I love the sound of straight six. I'm going to gut my cat first ,SHHHHHHHHHHH and then try a MBRP muffler later but I can't get up the nerve to cut just this one off. DAVE
