Mileage with Xzillaraider's standard box

Went for highway drive unloaded today thought I would post some numbers FYI. Truck has 315/70 BFGs tire pressure=50cold front and 45cold rear, no toneau cover, 3:73 gears, 48RE automatic tranny, long wheel base, 4x4, tank mod for accurate and speedy fillups.
Filled up and reset everything onboard. Hit the interstate I75 North toward Gainesville. Had box on 60hp setting. filled up again at exactly 42.7miles on the clock. Drove back to origional gas station at exactly 43.2 miles. difference in mileage due to different on/off ramp distances.

here's the numbers

First trip 60hp setting, 75mph, 42.7mile trip, 1920rpm(estimating), 68*outside temp, 22.3mpg on overhead computer, fuel used 2.421, calculated mileage= 17.637

Second trip 30hp setting, 75mph, 43.2mile trip, 1920rpm, 68* temp, 22.3(took a while to get there) overhead, fuel used 2.768, calculated mileage= 15.606

didn't have time to test the 100hp setting, wife was calling me home.

wonder on highway conditions if the 100hp setting would yeild even better numbers?

How do those numbers compare with your previous numbers ? What kind of MPG DIFFERENCES are you realizing ?

BTW . . . thanks for your diligence in recording accurate figures.

sorry I knew I would forget something. forgot to mention that with the stock tires I was getting an average of 17 on the highway. when I went to the bigger tires I was then getting 15 on average. I don't have specific numbers b/c I never actually went out and just drove to test mileage like I did today. I can tell you I fill up 2x a week with my job that is 70/30 mostly city driving, and I've been averaging 14-14.5 with the box on 60hp. These trucks aren't made for this kind of driving I know but my job changes a lot. Next week I might be 70/30 mostly highway miles.

most of this doesn't help I know. I will probably go out, turn off the box and run the same or equivalent distance and see what I get.

Over all I think the box on 60hp has regained the mileage lost with my bigger tires and then some.

My recent stop and go driving lately is the culprit of my low averages lately.

FYI

I don't think the sample size was big enough for that test. I would like to see the same test done over a 400 mile round trip, back to back.

I've tested 60 vs 0 from Cleveland to Chicago. Flat, and 68mph on cruise. 23.2 there on 60hp and 21.5 home stock. Hand calculated. Gotta love it!

Lightman,

Was that before you put on the 35" Toyos? I ordered the 100 hp box from Kyle and it will be here Monday. Right now the best I can get is between 15 and 17. If I can get mine up to between 17 and 19 or better I will be happy as can be. When I put on the 315's mine went down about 1 mpg.

Jerry, yes that was before the toyos. I'm not sure how much the toyos have taken off, since I haven't had my speedo reprogrammed yet.

I should also add I have a few factors going for me mpg wise in addition to the box - the intake/exhaust, synthetic fluids everywhere, I-80 is flat as a pancake, there was no wind, as well as 50 cetane fuel.

The fuel makes a huge difference. And no wind? I am jealous...I-80 west of you is not like that!

If one drove at the 100hp setting, will that still increase mileage in the same highway circumstances, or will it drop due to the power level?

Thanks Jamie

Lightman,

Ya, I agree. Every little bit helps. When you get your pinion factor reset let us know what it works out to then. I think it will be interesting. I can't wait to get mine and run some numbers myself.

My mileage is down a little from what I got with the EZ. I checked the 60 hp level last week and I got 15 mpg in lots of traffic everyday. That's about .5 mpg down from the EZ and 2.5 mpg down from stock. I'm checking the 100hp level now and will post my findings in a couple of days. Regardless of mileage this box kicks butt!! My truck flies now.......

Dodgezilla, that's what I'm getting around town as well. I know my standard box will break loose the rear at the 60hp setting if you shower into it going around a corner!! Scared me and my wife. Then we started hootn' n hollern'.

Unfortunately my wife FREAKS out if I even drive fast in a straight line so I have to drive conservatively with her inside!! She won't even get in when there's snow on the ground because she knows I'm gonna have some fun...

Made my FIRST wife pee on herself once. She always went on and on about Porsche and such.Took her for a ride in a 56 Chevy with a old vette 427 4 speed. The UP was pretty bad.The SLOWING DOWN was even worse.Thats when she let go.
