theres lots of opinions on this.....but i think 3500 is pretty safe. Simply because the 5.9's in industry and medium duty applications are goverened at 3500....dodge just throws the lower redline on.

I have heard 4000, but the stock cam is only good to 3700 or so. With cam, springs, and I'm not sure what else, I know there are some guys planning to turn 4500 once they get the programming figured out to let that happen.

The pump will let you go to 4000, but valves float @3700 as you said.....3500 seems too be safe(ish)

PDI dyno'ed their megacab at vegas with custom bullydog tune and other mods and made 1000+ hp. Talked to a engineer at bullydog about it today and he said they had the program set to allow truck to rev to 5000rpms but only fuel up to 4600rpms however he said they had head work with larger valves spring, cam, and rockers. He also said that the stock cummins has been tested to hold 4000rpm revs. This will be the year for the common rail.

I'll believe it when I see it.

Performance Diesel Incorporated has this program on their megacab truck from what i am told havent checked any deeper then this but i can see it happening. Their was a post awhile back i stubbled across about a truck mistakenly reving to 5000rpms valves floated but cam shaft and everything else held up. Ill try and see if i can find it.

The 5k rpm isn't a big deal, it's the 5k rpm with a downloader that's crap. The engine will do 5k with nothing more than valve springs if the fuel is there. (p-pump, engine oil, either....) They'll do 5k without the springs, the pistons will close the valves, it's no biggie!

Dosent ATS diesel have a drag rail with a twined cummins in it, I read in diesel world that it hits 5000rpm every run down the strip and its stock from the head gasket down.

A p-pumped truck can rev to 5k no problem because the pump is mechanical and will fuel till you stop reving (asuming you have the proper springs in the pump and the proper fuel plate). A VP truck will fuel to 4000k rpm with a redline box or some will hit 3800 with a TST COMP/Smarty stack. And besides, if a rail dragster goes over 5000rpm all it has to do is live for a 1/4 mile.
