Lost and confused, need some suggestions..

With towing moderately heavy (10-15K) and EGT's a priority I am looking for opinions on what I should do next. I hear a lot of folks talk good about twinns for towing? OR would injectors be a better call??

And to be honest I quickly get lost with MP8 (thought was a music device) flux3s. sticks etc, etc,.. So if you offer some advice please give a brief description and where is a good place to purchase..

I am wanting good towing power with reasonable EGT's, I personally do not see any purpose laying down 9xxhp and 1XXXTrq on a dyno if its not useable. I need reliability as well, performance is always fun but I do not constantly worry about EGT's while towing.

Im not new to modd'ing diesels just new to the 5.9..

Thanks for any help.

Chuck.

What are you going to do about the transmission?

I hope to get into a reputable shop in S/W houston next month. He built a solid transmission for my 95 PSD that made ~400rwhp

A smarty, intake, and strong lift pump would take you over 400hp with a cummins.
I would start off with a lift pump(fass or air dog) then turbo which twins would be the best way to go but i think a HTT 64/71/13ss would be fine too then if you want a little more power flux 1's or 2's wouldn't hurt along with a floor it stg 1 or 2 cp3.

I went with BD towing twins, they have worked out great for me. EGT's are well within check while towing and driveability is also improved.

Where did you get them? and about what is a good price? did you install them yourself or have it done?

Thanks,

If your not going to eventually heavily modify it, dont go with the lift pump. I plan on dual CP3s so it was worthwhile for me, but I am upwards of 600/1200 and I have yet to see any gain in mileage or horsepower with it.

Considering you don't want much more than what you have, IMO I would have that Smarty udgraded to the POD (power on Demand) that way you can adjust any power level from 0-99 with the push of a button, so you can tune your truck into any towing condition you may encounter. Either that or I would invest in some sort of boost cooler, such as the Snow Mist water/methanol injection, to keep your egts in check and promote denser air intake.

I am a little biased but, my set up is good for me, for a long time, I am very happy with the power, and it should be a good safe, reliable set-up, I know you got the auto, so that is a upgrade for sure if you're looking for the 400 RWHP level. Oh, and I disagree with not doing the lift pump, get the fass or the AD and you get two things; more fuel, and better fuel filtration, which is huge if you're gonna keep it for a while.

I guess we'll all just have to agree to disagree, then. The '07 has an in-tank pump that is reliable and will flow enough fuel for any towing application. ANY towing application. The FASS/AD market was born of the prior generation crappy pumps and niche applications in big power trucks. They certainly will give more fuel - more fuel you don't need pumped back into the tank via a regulator and well-aerated for another cycle of air removal. Waste of time and money on an 07. Not even the best option for any truck short of the big power niche applications, IMHO.

Thanks all for the input, beings my PSD made a little better than 400rwhp and it pulled fair considering it was running 35". I would really like to make a solid 500rwhp.. But only If I could maintain depenability and tow without egts being a limiting factor..

I tow 26k GCW often and it has been very reliable. Stocker over s400 would be my first choice for up to 600 hp, With a single and automatic I would look into a 62-71-13 or 14, Pacbrake exhaust brake, Flux 2 injectors which are 100hp, Guages, Smarty, Maybe put a coolant bypass if you plan on reving higher then 3,000 rpm. I tow with my smarty on 1 and it pulls hard. Egt's stay under 1400 on lvl 1 but that is a 100 hp tune on the smarty tnt. I have even raced a time or two with a 6k traier empty behind me and it just rips.

Easy, my bad Ace, I did not realize the intake pumps were so reliable, and could deliver so much fuel, but, what about filtering that fuel? I guess you could do an in-line filter. Sounds like twins if you could afford them would be the way to go chuck.
