Losing coolant!!!
#18
I have the same problem I think, never really looked at coolant level until a few weeks ago, was pretty close to add line. But one thing I noticed, the coolant level changed a good 1" from when the truck was sitting for a few days compared to a few hours. No noticable leaks here either, waiting on a oil analysis.

Still waiting to get it back actually, tomorrow it will be 2 weeks....I'm guessing it's just me but since I noticed it I swear my truck runs a bit rough at idle, but like I said i'm positive it's just me. The truck still has tons of power though, pulled 13k trailer last week with zero issues....

Garmon said
I talked to Jeff Garmon and he said I should pressure test it.The only thing is he said if the head gasket is blown that when I pressure test it,and if it is blown there will be water on top of the piston and then a tow truck to the shop. 1200 for a stock head gasket replacment. 2400 to 2800 for studs, o rings, and new head gasket. He also said that he finds it hard to believe that with a stock turbo that I have blown a head gasket. He also said that the third gen. trucks have a strong head gasket in stock form.

Its been mentioned... but take a good look at the overflow tank. The opening on it is huge and any sloshing will run a good amount of coolant out.
I've dumped coolant in my girlfriends driveway a few times when I've pulled in. Her driveway points downhill and if I stop too quickly it will slosh and run out.

Looked today after driving for 20 miles no signs of any leaks. Although I have noticed the res. level has dropped over an inch in two days where the heck is it going. Still no smell of burnt coolant either. I dont know what to do lol.

Pull an oil sample, that will tell you about coolant in the oil. How high in the coolant overflow is the coolant? Is it still in the safe zone? If you fill it too high I have heard of it going missing from the resevior for with no leaks detectable. You may be worrying about nothing.

As someone mentioned already, have you checked below your coolant overflow tank?
This is common on the 04.5 and newer trucks and is where my coolant was going.
I did this slick little mod and problem solved...
