Looking to upgrade
Well my VP44 took a turn and left. SO I'm looking to upgrade to a 600 series motor, which I think happened in 04.5.
Requirements:
DRW, QC, MANUAL, 4x4, 600
Questions:
About how much would one be?
What should I look for? ie. common problems
What problems have they had?
Thanks in advance!

I'll help bump this up again... the question is asked about once every couple of weeks so there is a lot of info. On pricing-- that is going to depend on a lot of different things so I can't help you there. The biggest things I think to look for is front end wear and play (read: ball joints, tie rods and also front wheel bearings) and check out the tranny if it is an auto. The 48re is a lot better than the 47re but can be abused all the same. A thing you won't be able to tell is the lift pump. It'll just go when ready. Some here just fix it before it is broke then you don't have to worry. They are pretty good in my opinion other than what I mentioned. If it is an 05-- it could have a plastic capped intercooler that have a reputation for failing. The rest are metal.

HA! Great minds think alike! I am actually in the very same process as you right now.
I am currently looking for an 04.5 - 05 QC DRW 4x4 with a 6spd. Prices are crazy around here for this truck and a stick is very hard to find but I am getting one somehow.
Good luck with your search....

As far as the front end, the stock ball joints and stuff wear quickly. But when replaced with good aftermarket stuff, like moog for instance that are greaseable, they last a very long time, no other problems.
