Upgrade help needed

I recently bought an 06 Mega Cab CTD and I would like to upgrade the intake, exhaust and maybe get some guages. So here are my questions...

1. What intake is best liked by everyone who has the same truck or similar?

2. Which would you recommend; dry filter or oil?

3. Would a 4" exxhaust be ok?

4. What gauges, would I need to get? Boost, Engine exhaust temp, auto tran temp? What else if any?

This is what I will be doing with it, daily driver, hauling a camper with either a boat or a couple of atv's behind during the summer. Taking trips around the country, as much as my schedule will allow.

Thank you for your advise in advance.

Intake - AFE Stage II w/ Proguard 7 filter oiled or AEM Brute Force Dry

Exhaust - 4" no problem because you already have 4" stock

Guages - EGT, Turbo Boost for sure. Tranny temp if you tow. Fuel Pressure guage would be nice too.

As mentioned, you already have a 4" exhaust, but do replace the muffler with a 4" straight-through muffler or a muffler-delete pipe.

Why wouldn't I want to replace the muffler with a 4" straight-through muffler or a muffler-delete pipe?

Excuse my ignorance, but I am new to this.

Thanks

At first, I misread his post too, but he said DO replace the muffler with one or the other. I'll probably be doing the same to mine this spring. I'm most likely going to be going with a straight pipe, but I've heard that it has a loud drone at highway speeds. Some here say that isn't the case, so I'm still undecided.

Unless you gonna add a chip/module in the near future the gauges aren't that important for a stock motor. I had them on for almost two years without any modules. It drove me crazy worrying over them. After much counseling I've over come my fears and don't pay as much attention to them as I did. Adding a straight through muffer AKA cat back system and an intake still wounld'nt require gauges. The muffer and a dry filter (Non-oil) won't hurt your warraty. You might want to wait a while before adding a module, at least let her break in.
Amsoil makes a very good dry replacement filter for the stock box (EAAU189) if you want to go that route. I've been using the AEM for a while and after just replacing the Dryflow with a amsoil I notice a change for the better. Good luck and use the search feature often.

Afe Stage II Or *****'s whistler (alot cheaper although there is a stage II in the classified's)

4" will work I chose 5" due to the fact that I tow a lot and it lowers egt's
definately replace factory with a donaldson or nelson or rokkteck muffler.

I wouldn't own a diesel truck without guages. The only reason I don't have mine yet it because I am working on production of a 4-guage a-pillar.

1. I like this one, I may be a little biased.. Whistler
2. DRY
3. 4" or 5" is fine but if your going to upgrade why not do 5" right
4. I like Isspro and Dipricol for gauges and if you want them ALL to match and you want a rail gauge get Dipricol.

Have Fun

I am in the same position as wegotlabs with an 07 CTD. I am not planning on any programmers and such until the truck is well broken in and out of warranty. So what I am seeing is that I were to do an exhaust mod, it would be safe to go to a 5" right away so no need to change in future? But since the stock is 4", would doing a cat back 5" be possible? or even worth it? The gauges may not be necessarily needed for a stock motor, but not a bad idea?

I've been doing some basic mods to my wifes 2wd Mega Cab & it is a blast to drive. I originaly put a 5" bulldog cat back exhaust on it but it was still pretty quiet but did have a nice sound. I have since reinstalled the stock mega cab exhaust with the resonator but with a Geno's muffler eliminator pipe. Perfect sound now & no drone. We scored an Air Raid air filter on Evil Bay & with the silencer ring removed it whistles pretty good. For hp we are currently using a Quadzilla XZT 65 hp towing box but we also had good results with a Superchips Flashpaq tuner on performance tow mode. These few mods have raised our mileage a solid 3 mpg & the fun factor for her 100%.
